At the time of this writing, there are more than 50 unlockable characters inDisney Dreamlight Valley. Many of these characters can be invited to your Valley after completing their respective Realm, but each Realm costs Dreamlight to unlock, which can be hard to come by.

You can play the game in any order and bring any character you want to the Valley. Some characters inDreamlight Valleyare more useful than others, though, and stock special stalls, upgrade equipment, and add whole new experiences and minigames to the game. If you’re trying to figure out which order to unlockDreamlight Valleycharacters in, start with the most useful characters.

It’s worth noting before you begin thatseveral of these characters require others to be unlocked first. For instance, to get the Cheshire Cat, you’ll have to bring Alice into your Valley first. I’ve stillordered these characters based on how useful they are,so you know which characters to prioritize unlocking as soon as you’re able to.

10Merlin From The Sword in the Stone

Important, But Easy To Overlook

Technically, you don’t need to unlock Merlin inDreamlight Valley, sincethe character isalready present in the Valley when you arrive. That makes him easy to overlook, though, which would be a mistake.

Merlin isone of the most important characters in the game, especially when you’re first starting out. So, while you might not need to “unlock” him from a special Realm, it’s worth increasing your friendship with Merlin as early as possible.

The character willhelp you achieve many milestonesthrough several crucial quests, from getting all your Royal Tools and upgrading the watering can to uncovering the game’s lore and the Valley’s secrets.

9The Cheshire Cat From Alice In Wonderland

The Uncrafting Station Is Incredibly Useful

The Cheshire Cat isnot an easy character to bring to the Valley. You’ll need to invite Alice, then complete several time-locked quests before you can even invite the mysterious cat.

Getting him to level seven for his Uncrafting Station has a whole list of prerequisites: inviting Tiana, WALL-E, Daisy, Aladdin, Vanellope, and Mirabel, progressing with Scar and Mother Gothel, and unlocking the Frosted Heights. Don’t let that list intimidate you, though, as all those characters simply need to be unlocked, not leveled up. Since this all takes time,it’s a good idea to start the process as early as possible.

Work at it one character at a time, and you’ll eventually haveuse of the Uncrafting Station, one of the most useful items in the game. This itembreaks down furniture and decor into their component materialsin exchange for Dreamlight, making it possible to recycle materials and saving a lot of time in the process.

8Daisy From Mickey Mouse Movies & Shows

New Decor At Your Fingertips

Unlocking Daisy doesn’t require completing a Realm. Instead, you can bring the duck character to the Valley by completing Mickey Mouse’s friendship quests, which will eventually lead to the opening of The Boutique, acrucial resource for design-loving players.

Daisy’s Boutique adds another shop to your space in addition to Scrooge’s store. The Boutique issues dailyTouch of Magic challenges, providesmore customizable accessories and items, and allows you to put up custom designs for any multiplayer visitors to pick up when they’re visiting.

Disney Dreamlight Valley player posing with Maui

7Maui From Moana

Upgrade Your Pickaxe ASAP

Dreamlight Valleyplayers largely dislike Maui for his arrogant nature and his propensity to beat his chest and say “you’re welcome” when he’s done nothing. He’s alsoextremely large and tends to get in the way, sometimes blocking the view and other times literally standing in front of the player and making it hard to get around him.

With all that said, Maui is still one of the first characters you should unlock inDDVbecause you need him to upgrade your pickaxe. Maui’s level four friendship quest willupgrade your tool to be able to remove the large coralsthat block your way on the beach, so he’s worth leveling up at least to that level.

6Elsa And Anna From Frozen

Remove Obstacles From Your Valley

Both Anna and Elsa are very useful to have around as soon as possible because they’re needed in order toupgrade your Royal Tools. Elsa’s starting quest and level 6 friendship quest will upgrade your pickaxe to be able to remove ice chunks from the Valley, while Anna’s shovel upgrade will finally allow you to clear out those annoying stumps.

Elsa and Anna are found in the Frozen Realm, whichcosts only 4,000 Dreamlight to unlock. The low price makes them an appealing option to unlock early, and you definitely won’t regret it if you prioritize the sisters.

5Prince Eric From The Little Mermaid

Get More Crafting Recipes

Prince Eric begins to offer arandom selection of crafting recipesat his castle after reaching friendship level 7, so he’s a must-have for any players who want thefreedom to craft and decoratemore.

Getting Eric to this level takes a bit of groundwork, but it’s worth it. Instead of accessing him via a Realm, Eric can be invited to the Valley afterfinishing Ursula’s level 10 quest. Getting recipes at Eric’s Castle will also require that you haveWALL-E, Remy, and Maui unlocked—but all three are worth unlocking early and aren’t difficult to acquire.

Tiana and Prince Naveen in Disney Dreamlight Valley

4Tiana From The Princess And The Frog

A Taste Of Home-Cooked Meals

When Princess Tiana arrived inDreamlight Valley, she brought with herseveral useful additions to the village.Tiana’s Palace is a restaurantwhere players can serve up meals like in Chez Remy (more on this in a bit), andTiana’s Meal Stallserves up pre-cooked meals for days when you just want to eat out.

Both are useful for earning Dreamlight, learning new cooking recipes, or just filling up your Stamina meter when you’re busy running around restoring light to the world.

To unlock both the Palace and the stall, you’ll need to have completed Remy’sA Taste for Literaturequest and gotten Mulan’s friendship level to 2, which will also need Mirabel unlocked. Luckily, that’s all you need toget the most out of Tiana’s presence in the valley,so she’s very much worth prioritizing early on.

3Vanellope From Wreck-It Ralph

Unlock Multiplayer And Dream Snaps

Instead of having her own Realm, Vanellope can be found wandering around in Dream Castle after you complete the main questThe Haunting of Dreamlight Valley.

This makes her both auseful and easy character to unlock, since she’ll become available as part of a player’s natural progression through the game’s main story. Vanellope gives players access to theValley Visit Station, which is needed to access the multiplayer features of the game.

Player, Kristoff, and Anna in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Even if you don’t plan to use multiplayer, you’ll need Vanellope for theDreamSnaps feature, aweekly photo and design competitionwhere players submit themed snaps for a chance to win Moonstones. Just submitting a DreamSnaps entry every weekearns you 300 Moonstoneseach time, so it’s always worth a try.

2Kristoff From Frozen

Supplement Your Resource Gathering

Kristoff is another character who doesn’t have his own Realm. He can befound after unlocking the Forest of Valor, and comes to live in the Valley after completing a series of quests.

Unlocking Kristoff and getting him to level six will start a quest tocraft a special resource stall, which is an incredibly useful stall to have—especially for beginners. Initially, this stall willsell softwood, stone, and sand, but leveling Kristoff up to 10 will unlock three more resource slots, which will hold a rotating selection of useful crafting materials like clay, hardwood, iron and gold ingot, and more.

Kristoff is one of the most useful characters to have in your Valley thanks to his stall, and the ease of unlocking him makes him a top priority inDreamlight Valley.

1Remy From Ratatouille

Unlock Cooking Right Away

When you first startDreamlight Valley, you canchoose between three Realms: Remy’s Realm, Moana’s Realm, and Wall-E’s Realm. The very first character you should invite to your Valley is, without a doubt, Remy.

Unlocking Remy gives you access to the cooking minigame and additional cooking activities, like the restaurant Chez Remy.Cooking is a key mechanicthat grants you boosts, allows you toaccess your gliderwith the Well Fed status, and lets you complete orders for customers at the restaurant for rewards.

So before you unlock anyone else, ensure to prioritize Remy as the very first character you bring into the Valley inDisney Dreamlight Valley,
