During the most recentPokémon Legends: Z-Atrailer, players finally got a look at one of the confirmed new Mega Evolutions, Mega Dragonite. Unfortunately, while I love Dragonite as much as a lot of other players, this is probably one of the last Pokémon that needed a Mega Evolution.
However, there are numerous Pokémon that would benefit from adding the Mega gimmick to their evolutionary line. Of course, with leaks floating around, players already have a pretty good idea of which Pokémon may be gettingnew Mega evolutions inLegends Z-A. Still, you can’t always trust leaks, and the one confirmed officially by Pokémon so far was Dragonite.
10The Gen 6 Starters Deserve Better Than Gen 4 Got In Arceus
Fennekin, Chespin, & Froakie Are Some Of The Most Popular Starters In Pokémon
Whilethe bestPokémonstarteris a debatable topic, there are some that thePokémoncommunity seemingly comes together to either hate or love. When Chikorita was revealed as one of theLegends: Z-Astarters, a lot ofPokémonfans didn’t even attempt to hide their blatant disappointment. However, that disappointment could be attributed to the fact thatthe Z-A starters have a lot to live up to.
While Fennekin and, to a lesser degree, Chesnaught are widely beloved Pokémon, there’s no denying Greninja’s impact on the franchise.Greninja was even voted Google’s Pokémon of the Yearby players in 2020 over some of the most iconic Pokémon, like Charizard and Lucario. So,if they can’t be the stars of the game, there’s almost no question they at least deserve Megas.
9I Can’t Believe Aegislash Didn’t Have A Mega In X & Y
An Aegislash Mega Has The Potential To Be One Of The Coolest Pokémon In The Game
While there are several Pokémon that are designed based on everyday household objects, like Rotom, Litwick, Klefki, and more, there’s no denying thatAegislash’s sword and shield design is anything but plain. DespitePokémon’s fantasy-like elements, it’s pretty far from being a traditional fantasy game, which is why something like Aegislash stands out so heavily.
As someone who can be entirely won over in a game by the option of a cool sword, I can’t deny that I personally just find this design to be interesting. This design is so unique forPokémon,as it steers away from the traditional animal-like appearance of most Pokémon, meaningthe Mega would be unlike any other, with the additional benefit of great typing.
8Eevee Seems Like An Obvious Choice
The Last New Eeveelution, Sylveon, Was A Gen 6 Pokémon
Given how long it has been since a new Eeveelution was announced, it may or may not come as a surprise that the last one we got was back in 2013 when theX&Ygames were released in Japan. That being said, while Sylveon is a big deal for Gen 6 for that reason,I can’t seeZ-Aopting to give a single Eeveelution a new mega and not the rest, which is beyond out of the question.
There was originally a rumor floating around thata new Eeveelution would be unveiled inZ-A, but this has become increasingly unlikely. Plus,if we were to see a new Eeveelution anytime soon, it would likely be in Gen 10, not a spin-off.
So, that leaves the option of doing whatPokémonhas always done with Eevee and its evolutions. While it’s a bit unprecedented to have the first evolutionary stage of a Pokémon line have a gimmick form,Eevee and Pikachu have always been exceptions to the rules due to their popularity and convenience. So if Sylveon can’t have a Mega, I hopePokémonhas at least considered giving Eevee one.
7Chandelure Always Feels Second Best, But A Mega Could Change That
Chandelure Is The Perfect Ghost-Type To Receive A Mega In Legends: Z-A
If you’re a fan of ghost-types, like me, then you probably also think Chandelure is an incredible design and a cool Pokémon. However, what’s unfortunate about Chandelure is that it always seems to be placed in games where there are better Ghost or Fire options for a team, whether that be because of design or strength.
Even if you take a look at the most recent game,Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Chandelure was available in the DLC, but with Ceruledge already in Paldea with the same Fire/Ghost typing, it was unlikely anyone was going to swap for Chandelure. Now, however,Z-Ahas the chance to change that by giving Chandelure a new Mega evolution with a potential type adjustment.
6As A Gen 1 Pokémon, Starmie Feels Forgotten
Starmie Is A Great Pokémon That Deserves To Make A Comeback
Unfortunately for Gen 1, a lot of Pokémon often get overlooked unless they’re one of the big ones, like Charizard, Pikachu, Snorlax, or Gengar. In the case of Starmie, as a Water/Psychic Pokémon, you would think it would be more popular. However, since Slowbro is a more popular Gen 1 Pokémon with the same exact typing, Starmie never really had a chance.
In the case ofZ-A, however, it’s unlikely we’ll see any new Pokémon other thanregional forms or Megas, which means overlooked Pokémon might have a chance to stand out.If Starmie were to receive a Mega evolution, it might finally help newer players, or those who have forgotten, remember how incredibly strong this Pokémon is, especially since Slowbro’s Mega is old news.
5Pokémon Never Misses The Opportunity For New Pikachu Content
As Pokémon’s Mascot, I’d Be Shocked If Pikachu Is Left Out Of A New Mega Lineup
As mentioned with Eevee, while it is a bit odd to have a Mega for Pikachu and not Raichu, Pikachu has always been one of the exceptions to Pokémon’s rules. After all, it had its ownDynamax and Gigantamax forms inSword & Shield, and even its own game,Let’s Go Pikachu, where exclusive new moves were added just to make it a broken Pokémon in the game.
So, as a Pokémon that TPCi seems to bend over backwards for, I’m honestly shocked it hasn’t already received a Mega, especially whenCharizard has a Mega forXandY.While this isn’t one of the Pokémon speculated to receive a Mega in leaks, I’d be shocked if Pikachu doesn’t end up with one at some point, even if it’s not inZ-Aspecifically.
4Dragalge Always Felt Like It Was Missing Something
A New Mega Evolution Would Be The Perfect Way To Enhance This Dragon-Type Pokémon
When it comes to Dragon-type Pokémon, it seems to go without saying thatplayers are looking for something big and intimidating that packs a powerful punch. This is part of the reason that Dragonite, whosebrand-new Mega designis even worse, gets so much flak for looking like a children’s cartoon character, while Charizard, who is actually a scary-looking dragon, isn’t a Dragon-type at all.
So, when it comes to Dragalge,it’s not necessarily cute the same way that Dragonite is, but it isn’t exactly intimidating either, which is exactly why a Mega evolution would be the perfect way to make this Pokémon feel complete. I’d love the opportunity to use thisunderrated Dragon-type inLegends: Z-A, and if leaks are anything to go off of, I might get the chance.
3Clefable Is The Perfect Way To Honor Fairy Types
With Gen 6 Introducing Fairy Types, It Seems Fitting To Give One A New Mega Evolution
Since Gen 6 was theintroduction of Fairy types inPokémon, it seems thata natural way to pay homage to Fairy typing would be to give a popular Fairy type a new Mega evolution. Although there are several to choose from, the Clefable line seems like the most obvious choice.
This evolutionary line was clearly inspired by the concept of fairies before fairy-typing even existed inPokémon, and as a mono-fairy-type, Clefable is the perfect Pokémon to get a new Mega in celebration of fairy types. This is one of the few Megas that leaks have speculated as well, but at this time, nothing has been officially confirmed.
2The Z-A Starters Need To Follow Arceus' Lead
Arceus Gave Hisuian Forms To Its Starters, So Z-A Needs To Do The Same With Megas
LikeArceus,Legends: Z-Aselected three random startersfrom the pre-existing lineup to be the starters for its game. The chosen starters include Chikorita and Totodile from Gen 2 and Tepig from Gen 5. Since these are starters from earlier Gens, it goes without saying that they don’t have Mega evolutions already, but if this game follows Arceus' example, they will soon.
Arceusmay not have given its starters a gimmick, but they did receive new final evolutions in place of their original ones that were specific to that region. So, it seems natural thatZ-Awould do the same, onlyinstead of changing the final evolution to a regional form, it would instead give the starters a new Mega evolution.
1Mega Kingambit Might Have Been Confirmed In The Latest Z-A Trailer
The First Paldea Pokémon Has Been Confirmed In Legends: Z-A, But There May Be More To It
When showing off the story trailer forLegends: Z-Aduring themost recent Pokémon Presents, players got the first tease of Paldea. Unfortunately, while the Pokémon itself wasn’t necessarily shown, it might as well have been, as what was shown instead wasa massive life-size statue of none other than Kingambit.
While Pawniard and Bisharp aren’t Gen 9 Pokémon,Kingambit was a newly added final evolution to the line that was specifically introduced in Gen 9.
Considering that this is the first Gen 9 Pokémon teased forZ-Aand thatthe statue was in the office of Corbeau, the powerful boss of the Rust Syndicate, I think it’s safe to say that the absurdly powerful Kingambit might be his ace Pokémon, and it likely got a Mega evolution because of that. Since Corbeau’s typing is Poison, and possibly Steel, based on the hints in the trailer, this may mean we could see a Poison/Steel Mega Kingambit inPokémon Legends: Z-A.
