Dragon Ballfans are well acquainted with the idea of fusion; the series even sports two different ways for two characters to fuse into one. Very few of these potential fusions have actually been seen, but Toriyama did design one of them as a “what if,” and it’s hilarious.

InDragon Ball, characters most commonly perform what is known as the Fusion Dance, a special technique which allows two characters to fuse into a single combatant whose strength is greater than the combination of the two original fighters. This is most frequently seen with Goten and Trunks' fusion, Gotenks, and can go wrong in some very silly ways.

Toriyama’s hypothetical fusion of Krillin and Piccolo.

Toriyama’s Hidden Fusion is Highly Unexpected

Toriyama’s What-If Sketch Is An Exceedingly Hilarious Amalgamation

The Fusion Dance is first introduced over 240 episodes intoDragon Ball Z, and is carefully taught to Goten and Trunks to ensure that they can pull it off successfully. If the Fusion Dance is done improperly, the resulting fusion will typically be thin and decrepit, or overly chubby and out-of-shape.

To that end, Piccolo borrows Krillin to help teach the boys, as his partner in the Fusion Dance. They demonstrate the technique, but don’t actually fuse; this is said to be because fusions created using the Fusion Dance require the two participants to be of similar height and build, and Krillin and Piccolo are the two farthest apart in size.

However, Akira Toriyama decided it would be fun to see what a fusion of Krillin and Piccolo might look like, and sketched up “Prillin.“Prillin is depicted as a short, bald fighter in standard fusion garb, with Piccolo’s pointed ears and Krillin’s six distinctive marks on his forehead. InDragon Ball Fusions, a video game, he has green skin as well.

There Are Hundreds of Bizarre Fusions Out There

Many Fusion Pairs Have Been Depicted Now, Including Some Ridiculous Ones

Prillin never appears inDragon Ball, not even as an imagine spot (the way the hypothetical Goku and Mr. Satan fusion, Gokule, did).It was first released as art for a contest, where fans were invited to draw their own fusions. In the years since then,Dragon Ball Fusionshas provided semi-official designs for many weird fusions.

One strange Fusion Dance fusion seen in the game is Yamhan, a fusion of Tien Shinhan and Yamcha. Yamhan retains only the back half of Yamcha’s hair, with the front of the head completely bald like Tien. He maintains Tien’s third eye.

Other fusions seen using a different method include Barlot (a fusion of Goku andhis father Bardock), Gorillin (Kid Goku and Krillin), Whirus (the fusion of Beerus and Whis), and Android 1718 (a fusion of 17 and 18), among many, many others.

Fusions are an inherently goofy part ofDragon Ball, and Akira Toriyama has always been one to have a good time with his work, so perhaps it’s no surprise that he sketched up a silly fusion just to see what it would look like. Hopefully,Dragon Ballfans will still have more new fusions to look forward to when the series finally returns.
