After watching James Gunn’sSuperman (2025)movie that thrusts DC characters back into the spotlight, those looking for games starring heroes like the Man of Steel have plenty of options to choose from. From dark open worlds to pulse-pounding action titles, many DC games are worth exploring even years after their release. Some have defined their genres, creating experiences that are perfect to get you interested in other DC heroes.

DC Comics has a huge roster of heroes, with Superman being perhaps the most recognizable. The last son of Krypton has laid the blueprint for heroes for generations, giving rise to other DC figures like Batman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, and many more. Some games feature both large rosters of known DC heroes and more obscure characters from different comics, giving you a wide range of titles to try.

5Green Lantern: Rise Of The Manhunters

Underrated Action To Appreciate Once

One forgotten DC game isGreen Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, a 2011 title released to synergize with theGreen Lanternmovie that released that same year. While that film stars Ryan Reynolds in one of DC’s worst projects, the game tie-in is incredibly underrated. Thedeep action systems truly reflect the powers of a Green Lantern well, making it perfect for fans who enjoyed Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner inSuperman (2025).

While this game has very simple puzzles and repetitive levels, the action systems are extremely fun, especially when compared to some modern games. Almost ablueprint for theBatman: Arkhamseries, thisGreen Lantern game was developed in part by Double Helix games, who would later go on to make the highly belovedKiller Instinct (2013)fighting game.

While not the"best"DC game ever made,Green Lantern: Rise of The Manhuntersis a short, action-packed experiencesimilar in scale toStar Wars: The Force Unleashedin gameplay. This alone makes it a fun 10-15-hour dive for action game fans, and Green Lantern fans at large. While it does depict arguably the worst Green Lantern adaptation, the combat makes this game worth trying at least once.

4Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

Play As Nearly Every DC Hero And Villain

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroesis one of the many Lego-themed action-adventure titles that transforms iconic worlds into lands made of brick for you to smash, collect, and build within. Thistitle features a roster of over 50 different DC characters, from Superman and Batman to more obscure faces like Killer Moth and Katana. As you finish different levels, you can uncover secrets and complete puzzles to unlock some of your favorite heroes and villains.

Every character inLego Batman 2plays somewhat differently, giving the game lots of replayability. Like many otherLegogames, it’s fun to go back and redo levels with new characters whose abilities allow you to uncover secrets you couldn’t access before.

In traditional fashion for aLegogame, each level of this game is packed with destructible environments and hidden secretsthat make each area worth exploring. This game takes place in many areas of Gotham City, with the Justice League’s Watchtower and Superman’s home city of Metropolis also included. As you go through each level, you’ll drive vehicles on the land and ground while fighting bosses from Batman’s extensive rogue’s gallery.

The story of this title, told across 15 different Chapters, is completely original to theLegogame. This makes this game a step above mostLegotitles, which sometimes just repeat the story of whatever movie or franchise they are tied to. The campy nature of the story feels perfectly in-line with something you would read out of a DC comic, giving players a light-hearted adventure with tightLegoaction that can almost feel nostalgic.

3Injustice 2

Fighting Game With Excellent Single-Player Content

Netherrealm Studios, the masterminds behind theMortal Kombatseries, launchedInjustice 2in 2017 as a follow-up to their 2013 titleInjustice: Gods Among Us. The first game was the first DC fighting game (besides another one I won’t mention) to feature legendary figures from DC Comics pit against one another.Injustice 2upped the ante, creating a far larger roster size that added incredible guest characters, such as:

What made theInjusticeseries so interesting was its story mode, which crafted a new DC world completely original to it. This world featured Superman and several other former heroes taking over the world after The Joker tricked Superman into killing Lois Lane. After Superman killed The Joker in return, he ruled over the world with an iron fist until the DC heroes we known traveled to their dimension and stopped the evil version of Kal-El.

This story was well before Omni-Man or Homelander were in the public eye, or asguests inMortal Kombat 1. WithInjustice 2, the story picks up after the first game, featuring a campaign where many characters come together to stop a new threat - Brainiac.Injustice 2has a massive roster full of characters with deep mechanics, from mainstays like Superman and Green Lantern to the Red Lantern Atrocitus, Darkseid, Captain Cold, and 33 other detailed heroes and villains.

Injustice 2, unlike its predecessor, also has tons of single-player contentnot seen in most fighting games. Players can acquire gear to customize any character on the roster, sometimes even unlocking new special moves for specific fighters. Each character can be leveled-up to take on new challenges and customized to reflect a player’s journey with their favorite characters.

2The Wolf Among Us

Story-Driven Prequel To An Obscure DC Comic

The Wolf Among Usis perhaps the most acclaimed title from Telltale Studios, the development team known for adventure games where your choices mold the story. While no strangers to the DC universe with theirBatman: The Telltale Seriesgame,The Wolf Among Usis arguably the most recognized. This game acts as a prequel to the Fables series of comics published by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint.

While you won’t find Batman or Superman in this game,The Wolf Among Usis a dark, gritty story that creates a violent and mature take on classic fairy tale storiesand characters. During the story, you follow the tale of Bigby"Big Bad"Wolf, making choices to determine his actions. Depending on your decisions, the path Bigby takes could look very different from another player’s journey.

There are five"Episodes"of story withinThe Wolf Among Us, which were originally released between 2013 and 2014. With an score of 80 on Metacritic, this game remains one of Telltale’s most well-reviewed projects.

Most Telltale games have incredible endings that make you want to replay the adventure again for another one, andThe Wolf Among Usis no exception. I still think this game is Telltale’s best work next toThe Walking Dead: A Telltale Game Series, mainly due to how well-written the main character Bigby is. WithThe Wolf Among Us 2still having no release date yet, it might be worth going back to this single-player classic.

1Batman: Arkham City

The Definitive Game For The Dark Knight

You can’t talk about DC Comics games without mentioning theBatman: Arkhamseries, but I still believeBatman: Arkham Cityis the one everyone should play. While a completely different tone than anything with Superman in it,Arkham Cityis the defining game in the action-adventure series. This game sees an entire metropolitan area in Gotham taken over by Batman’s greatest foes, with his mission to stop them all in a single night.

TheArkhamseries is known for having a robust, deeply satisfying combat system, where Batman uses his martial arts skills and a variety of gadgets to defeat the various criminals of Gotham. This combat system, refined to perfection inArkham City, would become the blueprint for many other titles, includingInsomniac’sMarvel’s Spider-Mangamesand even other titles likeMiddle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor.

One of the most memorable parts ofArkham Cityare its boss fights, which stand out as perhaps the best in the series. These fights test your knowledge of every combat system in the game, especially against some bosses, like Mr. Freeze, who adapts to your strategies, so the same trick won’t work twice.

After the linear environments ofArkham Asylum, the previous game in the series,Arkham Citytakes a pseudo-open-world approach, giving you a massive map to explore. Hunting down the infamous Riddler trophy collectibles is just one of the many activities you can do as you glide across the city. With plenty of stealth mechanics too, you can become a criminal’s worst nightmare, getting the drop on groups before taking them down.

While the world isn’t as large asArkham Knight’s would be later,Arkham Cityhas the perfect blend of story, world, and action for players to dive into. With the incredible vocal performances of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and The Joker also included, you won’t find a better game within the larger DC mythos after watchingSuperman (2025).
