It’s hard to imagineMcDonald’swithout its breakfast menu. The ever-evolving fast food brand is known for itscollaborations with popular franchises, but back in its early days, it was primarily a barbecue restaurant that focused on burgers, fries, and shakes. Created in San Bernardino, California, by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald in 1940, much of its early days revolved around serving lunch and dinner.

It wasn’t until 1970 that McDonald’s started offering their lunch and dinner menu items during breakfast hours. Five years later, it rolled out its first real breakfast item, and it all started with one iconic breakfast item.

From Santa Barbara McDonald’s owner and operator Herb Peterson’s vision to bring egg Benedict to the Mc menu,Egg McMuffin went live nationwide in 1975, and it has been enjoyed ever since.

The success of the Egg McMuffin led to McDonald’s expanding its breakfast menu, which now includes a variety of McGriddles, Biscuits, Bagels, and Hotcakes, but McMuffins have remained a stable top seller. Today, McDonald’s is a leading brand in the fast-food breakfast market, and breakfast has been a key source of revenue for the company.

In 2023, the company offered a limited-time edition of aLoki-themed Sweet N' Sour saucein collaboration with Marvel Studios. Developed specifically for McDonald’s Spicy McCrispy, the Spicy Pepper Sauce has been a key component of the food chain’s spicy chicken sandwiches, known for its heat with a note of habanero, onion, and garlic. As a secret ingredient, the sauce isn’t typically offered as a separate item.

The new spicy variations of McMuffins mean that those who enjoy the heat and the creamy sauce in Spicy McCrispy can now taste it during breakfast hours.
