Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from The Rookie season 7 finale, “The Good, the Bad, and the Oscar.”
Even thoughThe Rookieseason 7’s finale isn’t the most explosive event, it (and season 7 as a whole) still leaves viewers with a handful of unanswered questions. In the finale of the ABC police procedural show’s seventh season, two notorious villains return, while some of the main characters deal with seemingly random cases of the week, and Tim and Lucy try to address their relationship status. So, heading intoThe Rookieseason 8, the writers have a few stories to work with and mysteries to solve.

ABC is holdingThe Rookieseason 8 (which will contain 18 episodes) for its midseason schedule, meaning it won’t premiere until 2026 (perTVLine).
Nolan catches wind of Oscar Hutchinson’s whereabouts and enlists Harper’s help to catch himin “The Good, the Bad, and the Oscar.” As many know, Oscar escaped prison alongside Jason WylerinThe Rookieseason 6 finale. Since then, Nolan has been intent on finding the show’s long-standing villain. Elsewhere, Angela and Wesley take on a catfishing case, and Miles goes on a date with someone linked to the Eastern Front. Tim and Lucy also attempt to discuss what the future holds for them. 8What Top Secret Government Intel Did Monica Steal?
Monica Makes A Deal For Immunity At The End Of Rookie Season 7
Monica’s return inThe Rookieseason 7has been inevitable since she first eluded the police at the end of season 6. It was only a matter of time before she popped back up in the series; it’s just surprising that the writers waited until the finale to officially bring her back. Yes, Monica was briefly in episode 11. However, “The Good, the Bad, and the Oscar” features her real return asshe struts past Nolan, Wesley, Grey, and Angela after securing a deal with the government for her immunity.
AsThe Rookie: Fedscharacter Matt Garza explains,Monica stole top-secret national intelligence from an NSA facility in Los Angeles. She likely did so after taking the government worker’s ID cardinThe Rookieseason 7, episode 11. After Monica threatened to leak the intel, the Justice Department decided that turning her down wasn’t worth the risk. The “national security repercussions” of the secret becoming public were simply too great. Consequently, Monica now has immunity simply because she knows too much. Nevertheless, what exactly did Monica leverage to secure her freedom? Garza never elaborates since they’re so secret.

7Where Is Oscar?
Oscar Escapes Again
All the work Nolan and Harper (and the kid with the drone) do to find Oscar is all for naught since he escapes once again in the finale. Harper and the drone kid save Nolan’s life, but they do just asOscar’s escape helicopter arrives, and he flies off into the sunset. On the bright side, theRookiemain characterssecure the diamonds Oscar was trying to recover.
At the end ofThe Rookieseason 7, episode 18, Nolan learns that the helicopter in question was located. However, the pilots are dead inside, and Oscar is nowhere to be found. It’s unknown if Oscar will return inThe Rookieseason 8,but it might be safe to say that we haven’t seen the last of him in the ABC series.

6Are Tim & Lucy Officially Back Together?
Lucy Fell Asleep During Her & Tim’s “Talk”
ThroughouttheRookieepisode, viewers anxiously await for Tim and Lucy to finally talk about their relationship status. Unfortunately, the long-awaited discussion ends up being one-sided. Lucy returns home after a night shift and finds Tim making her breakfast. She happily accepts a croissant and sits on the couch, while Tim starts rambling about the possibility of them getting back together. He talks about how much he has worked on himself and how he feels ready to rekindle their romance.Tim even suggests moving in together. It falls on deaf ears, though, since Lucy is snoozing on the couch.
The Rookieseason 7 finale technicallydoesn’t end with confirmation regarding Tim and Lucy’s reunion.Tim says, “To be continued,” indicating they still have to discuss where they go from here. Nonetheless, it’s unclear whetherTim and Lucy are officially back together inThe Rookieor if season 8 will have to continue this will-they/won’t-they storyline.

5Will Lucy Stay On The Night Shift?
Lucy Passed The Sergeant’s Exam In Episode 17
WhileLucy becoming a sergeant inThe Rookieseason 7, episode 17is beyond exciting, her transfer to the night shift certainly isn’t. Of course, she takes this new challenge in stride and excels. However,it’s not feasible to keep Lucy on a shift that completely conflicts with the other characters' schedules.

The easiest way forThe Rookieto rectify this problem in season 8 is to have a day shift sergeant’s position open upat Mid-Wilshire. Then, Lucy can reunite with her friends and work alongside them once more. PerhapsThe Rookiewon’t take this route, though, and will steer Lucy’s upcoming storyline in a different, unsuspecting direction.
4Will The Eastern Front Return?
Miles Encounters The Gang During The Rookie Season 7 Finale
After breaking up with his longtime girlfriend,Miles steps back into the dating scene inThe Rookieseason 7, episode 18.But after his experience, he might retreat back into the single world a little bit longer. Miles sets up a date with a woman named Rina. They meet up for drinks, and everything is going great until Miles notices she’s wearing a necklace with a number seven charm. Since seven is a symbol for the Eastern Front, Miles excuses himself and calls Celina.
Rina’s brother is a member of the Eastern Front.
Then, Miles looks out the window and sees a group of men, who are undoubtedly members of the Eastern Front, planning to ambushtheRookieseason 7 character. So, Miles retreats, and a car chase ensues. Thankfully, Lucy and her night shift crew save the day, and that’s all she wrote. Given that this storyline transpires during a finale, one would think that the threat of the Eastern Front resurfaces in season 8.
3Will Nolan Get A New Rookie?
Celina Graduated From The FTO Program In Season 7
After Celina graduated from the FTO programinThe Rookieseason 7, episode 7, Nolan has yet to find a permanent new rookie. He came close with Connor in episode 12, but Grey transferred Connor to another station by the hour’s end. Since then, Nolan has been rookie-less.As a training officer, Nolan needs someone new to teach, and season 8 should be able to provide a rookie for the protagonist. Perhaps Connor can return, seeing as Nolan was great with him.
2What Will Happen With Harper’s Police Reform Program?
The Back-Half Of Season 7 Sweeps Harper’s Storyline Under The Rug
The Rookieseason 7sporadically touched upon Harper’s police reform program, but the finale ends without mentioning it. Hopefully, the writers won’t completely drop this storyline given how important it is.It gives Harper a significant character arc(which she needs and deserves) and provides drama since it often causes her to butt heads with her husband, James. So,The Rookieseason 8 can and should further explore Harper’s most recent pursuit.
1Will Liam Glasser Return?
Seth Gabel’s Villain Is One Of The Best Parts Of The Rookie Season 7
Perhaps one of the biggest questions following the season 7 finale (at least, for me) is whether Seth Gabel’sLiam Glasser will return inThe Rookieseason 8.Glasser has great potentialthat the show can certainly explore more of in future episodes. And the story is certainly there, waiting for the writers to jump on it.
Glasser’s attorneys will undoubtedly use this angle to get the charges against the serial killer dropped, and hopefully, we get to see it all unfold inThe Rookieseason 8.
The Rookieseason 7, episode 15ends with the possibility thatGlasser could be found not guilty at his trial. After the true crime documentary, Glasser uses the new findings concerning the history of Westview Psychiatric Hospital to his advantage. He attributes his behavior to the chemicals leaking in the facility. Glasser’s attorneys will undoubtedly use this angle to get the charges against the serial killer dropped, and hopefully, we get to see it all unfold inThe Rookieseason 8.
