Jurassic World Rebirthand the other films have all included plenty of dinosaurs, but there are still a lot of unique species that haven’t been featured in the long-running franchise. Even thoughreviews forJurassic World Rebirthwere quite underwhelming, these were all a delight to see.
However, these dinosaurs and several others in the franchise’s newest film have already been featured in previousJurassic Park/Worldmovies. Therefore, perhaps it’s time for the franchise to include different dinosaur species in more prominent roles. After all, there are plenty of fascinating dinosaur species that the franchise could choose to explore.
Theending ofJurassic World Rebirthdefinitely leaves the door open for a sequel. Since it has been a major box office success, making $718 million globally so far (viaBox Office Mojo), it would be shocking if Universal didn’t want to make a sequel. 8Elasmosaurus' Are Terrifying Marine Reptiles
The Mosasaurus Could Have Some Competition
Elasmosaurus' were ocean-based creatures that swam in the waters around North America during the Late Cretaceous period. According toThoughtCo.com,Elasmosaurus' are one of the largest marine reptiles ever, and could reach up to 50 feet in length. As seen in the image above, their extremely long necks make them an intimidating presence in the water.
Many believe that the legend of the Loch Noss Monster is actually based on an Elasmosaurus. Drawings of the monster which some believe lives in the Scottish lake commonly feature a very long neck, so this makes sense. This also proves thatthe Elasmosaurus' unique appearance would ensure that it would be a fascinating addition to theJurassicfranchise.
It should be noted that the Elasmosaurus is not technically considered a dinosaur. However, the mosasaurus is also not a dinosaur and has become one of the most popular creatures in the series. Therefore, based on how terrifying the mosasaurus has been in movies likeJurassic Worldand the recently releasedRebirth,perhaps it’s time for yet another large marine reptile to join the franchise.
7Troodon’s Were Some Of The Smartest Dinosaurs Ever
Troodon’s may be smaller dinosaurs, but they were incredibly smart, which made them capable hunters. Troodon’s roamed North America during the Late Cretaceous period and research has suggested that they are some of the smartest dinosaurs to ever exist. Troodon’s had very large brains, especially for the size of their bodies, which were no more than 3 feet high and ten feet in length.
Troodon’s were one of the most popular dinosaurs featured in Telltale’s 2011Jurassic Parkgame.
According toThoughtCo.com,Troodon’s large brains could have led to them eventually evolving a human level of intelligence. Research like this fuels the theories that reptiles disguised as humans walk among us today. In addition to their impressive intellect, Troodon’s had incredible eyesight and used their binocular vision to hunt their prey.

Speaking of Troodon’s, some researchers believe they may have often hunted Maiasaura’s, which resided in what is now the state of Montana and the Canadian province of Alberta during the Upper Late Cretaceous period. Maiasaura’s were large dinosaurs that could grow to be up to 30 feet long. Despite their menacing bone structure, which somewhat resembles a T-rex, Maiasaurus' were herbivores.
Instead of hunting other creatures, Maiasaura’s focused on mating and providing for their young. According toThoughtCo.com, Maiasaura females could lay 30 to 40 eggs at a time. Because of this,Maiasaura’s traveled in very large herds, which consisted of thousands of adults.
This detail proves that it would be amazing to see Maiasaura’s in theJurassicseries.It’s unlikely that InGen would have created thousands of them, but seeing a huge group of Maiasaura’s in a futureJurassic Worldmovie would definitely evoke the wonder of the earlier films in the franchise. These dinosaurs have been cut from severalJurassic Park/Worldmovies, so hopefully they can be included eventually.
5Purussaurus Is The Nightmare Version Of A Modern Crocodile
Purussaurus' Are Way Stronger Than T-Rex’s
Like the mosasaurus and the aforementioned Elasmosaurus, the Purussaurus is not technically a dinosaur. However, it is still a terrifying creature that would fit into the world of theJurassicfranchise.The Purussaurus is an extinct reptile that resembles a crocodile and lived in South America during the Miocene epoch, making it the creature on this list that existed the most recently.
Even though the Purussaurus resembles a crocodile, it is much bigger and far stronger. Purussaurus' could grow up to 40 feet in length, which makes them bigger than many of the dinosaurs featured in the franchise. According toEarth Archives,the Purussaurus needed to consume at least 88lbs of food daily, which is 20 times more than the modern American alligator.
Additionally,the Purussaurus could deliver a bite that is way stronger than a T-rex’s, making it an unrivaled apex predator. Therefore, even though the Purussaurus looks like a crocodile, making it less unique than the other dinosaurs on the list, its immense strength proves that it would be a terrifying addition to theJurassicfranchise.
4Styracosaurus' Are Even Cooler Than Triceratops

Styracosaurus' were ceratopsian dinosaurs that lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous period.The name Styracosaurus translates to “spiked lizard,“which makes sense because they have four to six long spikes coming out of their neck frills, shorter spikes on each of their cheeks, and a very long horn extending from their nose.
The long horn on their nose, in particular, would ensure that it is one of the coolest dinosaurs in theJurassicfranchise.
Triceratops, which resemble Styracosaurus', have appeared in severalJurassic Park/Worldmovies. Since Triceratops are herbivores, they are usually not involved in any major action scenes, but they are definitely some of the most unique-looking dinosaurs in the franchise.Since Styracosaurus' are also herbivores, they would not attack any of the human characters, but they should still be included in a future movie since they arguably look even cooler than Triceratops.
Styracosaurus' have several more horns and spikes than Triceratops. The long horn on their nose, in particular, would ensure that it is one of the coolest dinosaurs in theJurassicfranchise.Styracosaurus' have been cut from films likeJurassic Worldand its sequel,Fallen Kingdom, but should definitely be included in a future movie.
3Suchomimus Would Be A Great T-Rex Alternative

Obviously, the T-rex is the king of theJurassicfranchise. However, that doesn’t mean that dinosaur species that resemble the T-rex closely shouldn’t also be included in the series.The Suchomimus is a perfect T-rex alternative that unfortunately hasn’t been featured in anyJurassic Park/Worldmovies, despite appearing in the animated seriesJurassic World: Chaos Theory.
Suchomimus' lived in what is now Niger, North Africaduring the Early Cretaceous period. It was a relatively large dinosaur that could grow to be up to 36 feet in length, which is almost as big as the most formidable T-rex’s. Therefore, just like the T-rex, the Suchomimus could be a major threat in a futureJurassic Worldmovie.
Even though the Suchomimus closely resembles a T-rex, it has a longer jaw and mouth, which arguably makes it look even scarier. Suchomimus' also often had a colorful appearance, which would be great to see on the big screen. Overall, the Suchomimus would be a great addition to the franchise in a futureJurassic Worldmovie.
2Edaphosaurus' Have A Unique Sail On Their Back

Edaphosaurus' are herbivores that lived in North America and Europe during the Late Carboniferous and Early Permian periods. According toBrittanica,Edaphosaurus' were about 11.5 feet long, which is quite small compared to other dinosaurs on this list. However, as seen in the above picture, what makes this species so unique is the large “sail” on its back.
Despite being herbivores themselves,this sail made Edaphosaurus' appear more intimidating to carnivore predators. Therefore, even though they would not be hunting humans in a futureJurassic Worldmovie, it would still be great to see these unique-looking creatures.
Dinosaurs with similar sails on their backs, Dimetrodons, were previously seen inJurassic World Dominion. However, these were only seen in a dark cave, soit would be great to potentially see Edaphosaurus' in the daylight in a future movie. Edaphosaurus' are very unique dinosaurs, and definitely deserve to have some time in the spotlight in a futureJurassic Worldmovie.

Nothronychus' lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous period. The name Nothronychus means “slothful claw.” This refers to their long claws, which can grip onto trees like sloths.In addition to their extremely long claws, Nothronychus' had very long, narrow necks and large abdomens, giving them a very unique appearance.
Even though Nothronychus' are herbivores, they would immediately be one of the creepiest dinosaur species in the franchise if one ever appeared in a futureJurassic Worldmovie.Their long claws, small eyes, and strangely wide torsos would likely scare the characters in the movie, as well as audience members.
Many other dinosaurs on this list can be compared to creatures that have already been seen in the franchise, but the same can’t be said for Nothronychus'. They are one of the most unique-looking dinosaur species ever, and deserve to be included in a sequel toJurassic World Rebirth, or at least in another movie down the line.
