Big Brother 27has been off to a wild start as unexpected twists have turned the game on its head, butthe houseguests have made some rookie mistakes that could cost them their games with a legend like season 13 winner Rachel Reilly in the house.Big Brother 27turned the house into Hotel Mystère, where nothing is as it seems and secrets abound.

DuringBig Brother 27week 1, Rachel was unleashed into the game,Amy Bingham was revealed to the viewers to be the Mastermind’s secret Accomplice, and Zach Cornell won a secret power, which allows him to use a $10,000 prize to buy his way off of the chopping block, up until Jury.

During the first week, Vince Panaro won the first Head of Household (HOH) competition, and nominated Amy, Ashley Hollis, and Zae Frederich for eviction. Ashley won the Power of Veto, so Vince nominated Kelley Jorgensen, who eventually won the BB Blockbuster competition and removed herself from the chopping block. In the end,Zae was evicted by a vote of 9-5 over Amy.

It’s been a bumpy ride so far for theBig Brother 27houseguests. If they hope to defeat a fierce veteran player like Rachel, then they need to step up their games and not repeat the missteps that they made in week 1. Here are eight rookie mistakes that theBig Brother 27houseguests made in week 1that might’ve set them up for failure in the future.

1Vince Panaro Broke His Agreement To Keep Ashley Hollis Safe

Vince Appeared To Be Untrustworthy

DuringBig Brother 27week 1, Jimmy Heagerty won one of the first competitions, which required some of the houseguests to find a missing HOH relic. His prize was the privilege of choosing four people to compete in the first HOH competition.

Jimmy chose himself, Vince, Ashley, and Adrian Rocha to compete. They later all agreed that they wouldn’t nominate each other for eviction. However, when Ashley upset some of her fellow houseguests by taking a two-hour-long shower in Vince’s HOH bathroom, which they viewed as disrespectful, Vince realized that she’d be an easy target for nomination and put her on the chopping block along with Amy and Zae.

After the nomination ceremony,a shocked Ashley confronted Vince, asking him what had happened. When she began to cry,Vince once again made a promise to her by telling her that he’d take her off the block if he won the Power of Veto. However, in his confessional, Vince stated that he had no intention of doing that. Luckily for Vince, Ashley won the Power of Veto and removed herself from the chopping block.

Vince’s HOH reign was a mess, and it started with him going back on an agreement. It was way too early in the game for him to make such an untrustworthy move and nominate Ashley. However, the icing on the cake was when he made another empty promise to her, which, fortunately for him, he didn’t have to go back on.

People are always looking for a reason to target someone in the early weeks of the game before the real action happens, anda shady move like going back on his word could make the houseguests target Vince next. It was a rookie mistake to make, and then break, such a big promise.

2Kelley Jorgensen Volunteered To Be A Pawn

Everyone Knows That Pawns Go Home

DuringBig Brother 27week 1, Vince and Kelley immediately connected and made a Final 2 deal. When it came time for Vince to make his three nominations,Kelley volunteered herself as a pawn for him so he wouldn’t get as much blood on his hands. She also reasoned that they could hide their alliance because no one would suspect that they were working together if he put her up.

Vince decided not to nominate Kelleybecause he knew that the HOH should never nominate his own ally. However, when Ashley won the Power of Veto, and it was time for him to name a replacement nominee, Kelley volunteered to be a pawn again. This time,Vince took her up on it, despite his reservations.

Kelley soon became very paranoid, stating that she thought that she was doing something cool and different, and playing a little crazy, but being on the block was more pressure than she thought it was going to be. However,Kelley then won the BB Blockbuster competition, and saved herself from the chopping block. But, if she’d lost, she could’ve gone home, and it would’ve been her own fault for volunteering to be a pawn.

It’s astonishing that, after 26 seasons ofBig Brother, people still haven’t learned that they shouldn’t volunteer to go on the chopping block under any circumstances. However, Rachel knows this from experience and will almost certainly never volunteer as a pawn.

3Vince Put His Own Ally On The Chopping Block

Vince Needs Protection When He’s Ineligible To Play For HOH

Just because Kelley volunteered herself as a pawn didn’t mean that Vince had to nominate her. At first, it seemed that he was being smart about things by keeping her off the chopping block, but, when he used Kelley as his replacement nomination, it was baffling. She now had one less chance to save herself because the Power of Veto competition had already been played.

If Kelley had gone home,Vince would’ve lost his main ally, who would’ve been a number for him if, in the future, he ended up on the chopping block on eviction night. This was a huge mistake that could’ve really backfired on him if Kelley didn’t win the BB Blockbuster competition.

Vince got lucky this time, but, hopefully, he’ll never make this major error again because, if he really wants to go to the Final 2 with Kelley, he shouldn’t ever be nominating her.Imagine Rachel nominating Brendonduring theirBig Brotherruns. It’s impossible because it would’ve never happened, andit will never happen with Rachel and her allies inBig Brother 27either.

4Jimmy Heagerty Made An Explosive Speech In Front Of The Whole House

Jimmy Seemed Like A Loose Cannon

Jimmy wants to be viewed as theBig Brother 27villain, but, when he interrupted the end of the Power of Veto ceremony with an explosive speech, he went way too far.Jimmy called out Keanu in front of the whole house for calling him a snake and let him know that he was gunning for him. Although they eventually smoothed things over as best as they could, in that moment,Jimmy had already established himself as a loose cannon.

Jimmy is playing way too hard, way too fast, and, historically, those types of houseguests have gone home very early in the game. Not only do people not want to align with someone who’s unpredictable, but the house is stressful enough without someone like Jimmy constantly shaking things up.

Rachel used to be that person, but she seems to have learned from her mistakes and is now playing a more lowkey game. If Jimmy really wants to beat her like he said he does, thenhe’s going to have to calm down and play more strategically.

5The Houseguests Are Getting Distracted By Potential Showmances

Rachel Reilly Is Manipulating Them

When Rachel returned to theBig Brotherhouse, she formed an alliance called the Mom Squad with Amy. Because they knew that they’d never be able to compete with the physical threats in the house,Rachel came up with a plan to get the younger contestants to focus on each other by encouraging them to pursue showmances.

Rachel knew from experience that showmances can be incredibly distracting becauseshe was in one of the most memorable of them all, Brenchel, with her now-husband Brendon Villegas, with whom she shares two children. They met and fell in love duringBig Brother 12and then returned forBig Brother 13.Big Brother 27marks the first time that Rachel’s playing the game without him.

Rachel quickly put her plan to work by telling Zach all about how she fell in love with Brendon duringBig Brother 12. He later said in his confessional that his main goal was to win the $750,000 grand prize, but he was fired up about the possibility of finding the love of his life in the process.Zach’s connection with Lauren Domingue was later highlighted on the show.

In addition,Rachel spoke to Rylie Jeffries about his crush on Katherine Woodman, advising him to be her friend first, and then see where things led. It was shocking thattheBig Brother 27houseguests were already thinking about showmances in week 1because they should’ve learned from the past.

While severalBig Brothershowmances have led to marriage, they often also cause the couple to become the other houseguests' targets becausethey want to break up such powerful duos. Also, the members of the showmances themselves sometimes end up sacrificing their own games for the ones they love.

Some of theBig Brother 27houseguests need to get their heads in the game and focus on winning rather than romance becausethey’re falling directly into Rachel’s trap.

6Zae Frederich Publicly Went After A Veteran

Zae Targeted Rachel During His Final Moments In The House

Zae made the rookie mistakeof thinking that he could defeat a veteran of the game like Rachel. While Jimmy also wanted to target Rachel, he did it much more quietly, and didn’t get into a conflict with her.Zae, on the other hand, had a confrontation with Rachel in which he told her that he’d put her on the chopping block if he won HOH the following week because she’d be voting to keep Amy.

Rachel then said the now-iconic quote,“I’d be careful coming for the queen. You will get beheaded.“Zae later told Rachel that he wasn’t scared of her, and, as long as he was in the house, there was no way that she’d be a two-timeBig Brotherwinner. Rachel told him that if he wanted to act like a child and come for her, she hoped that he knew what he was doing.

I’d be careful coming for the queen. You will get beheaded.

During his live eviction speech,Zae once again targeted Rachel, stating that if the houseguests kept Amy, she’d be a vote for Rachel. As he continued to make his case against her, she was fuming. It was evident that,if Zae had stayed, Rachel would’ve been going after him. It was also uncertain if Zae really had the support against Rachel that he needed to actually eliminate her.

Morgan Pope had previously expressed interest in working with Rachel because she felt that she could learn from her because she’s on the Mt. Rushmore ofBig Brother.Morgan agreed with Rachel that Zae should go, along with Mickey Lee.

It’s never a good idea to target a strong player like Rachel becauseshe has the experience necessary to rally the troops against anyone she wants. It was a rookie mistake, and Zae’s hubris ended up getting the best of him as he was the first houseguest to be evicted.

7The Houseguests Avoided Being The First HOH Of The Season

Power Is Important In The Big Brother House

It was shocking whenJimmy had to choose four houseguests to play in the HOH competition, and so many of them didn’t want to.In old schoolBig Brother, the houseguests used to want to win at any cost, even if it meant that it put a target on their backs. The power and safety that they gained by being HOH for the week outweighed the risk that they might be put on the block the following week.

However, in recent years,Big Brotherhouseguests have used more lowkey strategies, with some staying under the radar so well that it’s easy to forget that they’re contestants on the show at all.

While this strategy might’ve worked in other seasons, having a veteran like Rachel inBig Brother 27means that the houseguests are going to have to work even harder to guarantee their safety.Whatever Rachel wants, Rachel usually gets, so having power over her as the HOH would always be something to strive for.

8Zae Used A Slur On The Live Feeds

The Houseguests Must Be Mindful Of Their Language

The worst mistake in the first week ofBig Brother 27was whenZae used the r-word on the live feeds. While playing chess with Keanu, he used the slur against himself to express his frustration when he made a mistake in the game. He immediately stated that he shouldn’t have said it, and Keanu agreed.

Zae added that it was one of the words that he was working on eliminating from his vocabulary. Keanu told him that he was lucky because it was late, so people might not be watching.

However, Keanu was wrong, andthere was immediate and justified backlash from fans against Zae.Many felt that he should’ve been removed from the house for making the slur because it violated theBig Brothercode of conduct, but he wasn’t. Although Zae was evicted anyway, it could’ve been disastrous for him if he’d stayed in the house because what he said was unacceptable.

Once fans turn on aBig Brotherhouseguest, they could lose crucial America’s votes that give power and prizes to the contestants. Even worse, over the years, many houseguests have ruined their reputations and even lost their real-life jobs because of things that they said in the house. It’s good that Zae left when he did because he made the major mistake of forgetting that there were cameras filming him 24/7, and it could’ve happened again.

TheBig Brother 27houseguests have a lot of potential, but they have to play smarter if they hope to beat Rachel. They’ve made plenty of mistakes, but, hopefully, they’ll learn from them, and improve as players as they move forward.TheBig Brother 27houseguests must think more strategically and always remember to"expect the unexpected.”
