Capes#1 Coming In November, Kirkman Confirmed At Comic-Con
In the sense thatCapesis a largely forgotten footnote in Robert Kirkman’s career, the fact that it is coming back is a testament to the author’s success, and his ability to parlay that success into a string of exciting projects. That includes revisiting a formative project that never fully got off the ground.
Kirkman is currently very busy; he just started the sci-fi action seriesBlood and Thunder, itself based on a decades-old concept, and he’s also taking over writing duties onTransformersthis fall. So,it says something about his confidence inCapesthat he’s adding it to his full plateof script deadlines.

Over the years,Kirkman clearly never forgot aboutCapes. Though the series only lasted a few issues, the characters did return in backup stories, published intermittently inInvincibleissues over the years. Now,Robert Kirkman is bringing them back while at his creative peak, and giving fans a perfect reason to check out the original limited run.

The Early 2000s Comic Will Be Revived As Part Of TheInvincibleUniverse
The characters ofCapesaren’t a total blank slate for Robert Kirkman, but their storytelling potential is a largely untouched canvas. The author has never given up on their potential, even as the heroes have lapsed into obscurity, and now he has a second chance to make them household names, just as their successorInvinciblehas become.
Following Robert Kirkman’s announcement of theCapesrevival at Comic-Con, frequent collaborator andInvincibleco-creator Ryan Ottley shared a sneak preview of one of his covers for the series on Instagram.
It is a fascinating creative choice on Kirkman’s part; that alonemakesCapesworth checking out when it debuts later in the year, and keeping up with as the series blossoms. Further, the characters get to be fleshed out by a creator with twenty-plus extra years of experience under his belt, meaning they will quickly eclipse their original incarnations.
It is anexciting time to be anInvinciblefan, as the world of the franchise continues to expand.WhetherCapeswill involve any other existingInvinciblecharacters remains to be determined, but after just one day of Comic-Con, Robert Kirkman has given fans a great deal to be excited about.
