It’s been a year since Palpatine’s Sith Master made their on-screen debut inThe Acolyte, and the occasion is sorely sorrowful in retrospect. Made famous by Palpatine’s storytelling inStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the tragedy ofDarth Plagueis the Wisehas since expanded beyond theStar Warsgalaxy.
As shared byStar Wars Holocron,Darth Plagueis finally had a chance to make his way to the screen inThe Acolytefinale, when he was glimpsed inside The Stranger’s mysterious lair watching both Qimir and Osha Aniseya at a distance. His appearance planted a seed forThe Acolyteseason 2 that, unfortunately, will never come to pass.

What Darth Plagueis' Introduction Means For Star Wars
He’s Incredibly Important To The Star Wars Mythos
Plagueis' official on-screen introduction inThe Acolyteremains a massive moment for theStar Warsfranchise. He’s been an elusive figure ever since he was name-dropped by Palpatine inRevenge of the Sith, with most of his story being detailed in James Luceno’s novelStar Wars: Darth Plagueis.
FollowingStar Warscanon’s reset in 2014, however, this story is now considered a part ofStar WarsLegends, andPlagueis' story in canon has become even more mysterious. His on-screen debut inThe Acolytewas meant to be the first step of something greater for Palpatine’s Sith Master, though it’s since fallen flat.

Plagueis Is The Biggest Missed Potential After The Acolyte’s Cancelation
Who Knows What Was Planned For Plagueis In The Acolyte Season 2
Unfortunately, Plagueis' story won’t be continued from here - at least, not inThe Acolyte. It was announced in August 2024 thatThe Acolytehad been canceled, and any future plans for this story were brought to an abrupt, screeching halt. That includes whatever was planned for Plagueis.
WhileThe Acolytehad several massive points of potential, with The Stranger himself being a huge interest, there’s no doubt amongst fans that missing out on more about Darth Plagueis is the biggest potential that’s now being missed without season 2.It’s possibleStar Warswill tell this story elsewhere, but it’s still a huge disappointment for now.
In the meantime,it’s still worth checking out Luceno’sDarth Plagueisnovel, asStar Warscanon does tend to borrow from Legends often when crafting new stories, such as adding the Tarkin Massacre inAndorseason 2. We likely haven’t seen the last of Darth Plagueis just yet, andThe Acolytewill always be to thank for his on-screen introduction.
