Andor Season 2 Ended With The Perfect Setup
TheAndorseason 2 finaleintroduced us to a surprising character: Bix Caleen’s and Cassian Andor’s baby. This reveal has understandably stirred controversy, especially among the show’s female fanbase, with discussions ranging from patriarchal representations of women in media to the way the baby epitomizes the love and freedom that the Rebellion, and on a much more intimate scale, Cassian, were fighting for. Each fan’s life experiences would have influenced how they felt about the show’s final shot, but it could still have wider implications for the franchise.
Following theAndorseries finale,CinemaBlendaskedTony Gilroy and Adria Arjona about the potential identity of Cassian and Bix’s baby. After all, there’s not muchStar Warsloves more than taking a seemingly insignificant character and giving them a starring role or a deep, personal connection with a legacy character. Was the baby’s identity discussed while they wrote and shot such a defining reveal?
Gilroy’s answer was an emphatic no, while Arjona’s answer was much more mysterious. She responded,“I can’t tell you that,”and teased that she had a“hypothetical answer.”In short, the baby could be anyone at this point. Perfect for a spinoff, I’d say.
I Have No Idea Who Bix’s Baby Really Is
Some fans have theorized that Bix’s baby will grow up to become Poe Dameron, the talented Resistance pilot portrayed by Oscar Isaac in theStar Warssequel trilogy. In all honesty, I’m against this idea or anything similar (Din Djarin’s name has been floated around as well). It simply reinforces the notion that everyone inStar Warsneeds to be connected somehow, and would only make canon unnecessarily convoluted.Poe Dameron’s parents were examined in theStar Warscomics, and the franchise already tends to override written canon with what happens on screen. There’s no reason to make this more complicated.

All we truly know is who the child’s parents are. A character like this, who is largely a blank slate (and should remain so), could open up new and exciting narrative possibilities forStar Wars. How will their father’s legacy influence how they move through the galaxy? What will they learn about the Rebellion from their mother?What kind of story could they be involved in outside ofStar Wars’major conflicts?There’s a whole galaxy out there beyond the Rebellion, the Empire, the Jedi, the Sith, and every iteration thereof.
The fact that their parents were both part of the Rebellion doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll follow in their footsteps. A spinoff focused on Bix and Cassian’s currently nameless child would allow room for creators to tell the story that they think is most important while also maintaining a sense of connection toAndor. It’s a straightforward, recognizable setup with endless creative freedom. What’s not to love?
It Would Be Wonderful To See Adria Arjona Return In A Starring Role
Cassian Andor’s character was used to closely examine the foundation of the Rebel Alliance and the sacrifices, ethical dilemmas, and strategic choices necessary to breathe life into the Rebellion. It was his story as much as it was the Rebellion’s, and Adria Arjona’s Bix Caleen was, relatively speaking, only a small part of the whole picture. Yes, she was a major part of Cassian’s life, but his life ended up being the Rebellion – it’s even one of the reasons she leaves him inAndorseason 2.
And yet, Bix is one of the most interesting characters inAndor,not just because of her connection with Cassian but because of how her experience of the Rebellion, vastly different from Cassian’s, influenced her choices and the life she created for herself. She believed in the Rebellion’s cause; she wouldn’t have been in contact with Luthen Rael on Ferrix if she didn’t, and she wouldn’t have followed Cassian to Coruscant and Yavin 4, either.
What kind of choices might she have made if she hadn’t been tortured due to her relationship with Cassian, however? What would she have done with her life if she hadn’t been forced to flee Ferrix, endure the constant toll of trauma, or hide away on a Rebel base? All Bix wanted was peace. Her leaving Cassian, even if it was in part for the good of the Rebellion, finally allowed her to find the peace she craved and deserved.
She’s brave, loyal, and strong, and it would be great to see her character again without her fate being dependent on Cassian’s existence. Who is she without him? A spinoff about Cassian and Bix’s child would give Adria Arjona a chance to revisit Bix at an entirely different time in her life. I’d love to see what she and her child become after the war, and afterAndor.
