The arrival ofa mysterious version of Gwen Stacy, a formidable Weapon X creation who claims to be the original Gwen and who has a fierce vendetta against Peter Parker, marks a surprising shift. Gwen Stacy (the real one) met her end back in 1973 and has famously stayed dead since, making her one of the few comic characters seemingly immune to the popular trope of miraculous resurrections. However, this new Gwen adamantly claims to be the original and targets Peter directly, with Kate Bishop and Gwenpool acting as Peter’s support.
The climactic moment arrives when Peter collapses and Gwen Stacy attempts to help him.Gwenpool and Kate arrive on scene, with Gwenpool getting in the way of Gwen’s attempts to help Peter. Frustrated at Gwenpool’s antics,Gwen tries to shove her away, but instead pierces through Gwenpool’s chest with her Wolverine-like blade attached to her glove. The panel is a striking homage to Elektra’s classic death fromDaredevil#181 by Frank Miller, where Elektra is impaled by Bullseye, which Gwenpool subtly references in classic meta form. With blood appearing on her mask, Gwenpool collapses, seemingly dying in Kate Bishop’s arms.
What Sort Of Resurrection Awaits Gwenpool?
The Possibilities Are Endless Given Her Unique Nature
Given Gwenpool’s unique ability to manipulate the comic book medium itself, her death most likely will not be as final as it appears, especially considering the fact thatGwenpool#2 is only the second issue of the run. Her reality-warping powers, stemming from her knowledge that she is in fact a character in a comic, offer countless avenues for her tocircumvent a conventional comic death. She can exploit loopholes in the rules of the comic book universe, or even rewrite her own fate by bending the very fabric of the story.

Gwenpool could even reappear through her meta-abilities by editing herself back into existence or navigating between different comic book realities. Another possibility is that this particular version ofGwenpool’s death serves a larger purpose, perhaps as a catalyst for a multiversal event that could pull in a different universe’s version of the character. Given Gwenpool’s unique hyper-awareness of the very purpose of her existence, her “death” could set the stage for a deeper exploration of comic book reality itself.Gwenpool’sinevitable return will undoubtedly be a meta-commentary on the fleeting nature of death for characters in popular comic series.
