After Katy Perry’s space mission, I’m convinced that retooling theAmerican Idoljudges panel with Carrie Underwood was the right move becauseKaty is too busy with her other career endeavors to give her full attention to the show. When Katy decided to leaveAmerican Idolafter seven seasons, she said that it was because she wanted to focus on her own music career again. She’d been on the judging panel with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan since ABC revived the show in 2018 after its 2016 cancellation by FOX.

ForAmerican Idolseason 23, Carrie took Katy’s place at the judging table, and I believe that she was the perfect choice. She wonAmerican Idolseason 4 in 2005, and she’s since gone on to become a global music superstar, selling 85 million records worldwide and releasing 28 number one hits. However, despite Carrie’s great success, she seems ready to settle into her role on theAmerican Idoljudging panel, whileKaty wants to spread her wings again.

Katy Perry Went To Space

Katy Was Part Of A 2025 Blue Origin Space Flight

After Katy exitedAmerican Idol, I was shocked when I heard thatshe was going to be part of a Blue Origin Space Flight. She was one of six women in the New Shepard NS-31 crew that launched on June 27, 2025, along with Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez. This was the first all-female flight crew since Russian cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo spaceflight in 1963, making her the first woman in space.

Katy obviously has bigger plans thanAmerican Idolright now, so I think it’s wonderful that the show found a replacement,Carrie, who’s able to dedicate her time and focusto the singing competition series. I’m so happy for Katy because, after seven seasons of devoting her time and energy to helping young artists launch their careers, I believe that it was time for her to once again focus on herself, and she literally reached for the stars.

Katy Released A New Album

Katy’s Album 143 Is Her 7th Studio Album

In September 2024,Katy released her seventh studio album,143. I think it was a symbol of her rebirth in the music industry afterAmerican Idol. She only released one album, 2020’sSmile, in the seven years that she was a judge on the show, so I think that she was ready to make a comeback with some new music. Katy is one of the most successful pop stars of all-time, selling over 143 million records worldwide and 19 million in the United States. I think it’s fantastic that Katy is able to get back to her musical roots as she leavesAmerican Idolbehind.

Katy Is Embarking On A World Tour

The Lifetimes Tour Will Continue Through 2025

Katy hasn’t toured since she became anAmerican Idoljudgein 2018. Her last tour wasWitness: The Tourin 2017-2018.Katy is about to begin herLifetimesworld tour, which begins on June 29, 2025, in Mexico City, Mexico and ends on June 06, 2025, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It will consist of 84 concerts in Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America.

I know that being anAmerican Idoljudge made it impossible for Katy to embark on a large-scale world tour such asLifetimesbecause of her commitment to the show. However, I think being a judge was perfect for her at the time because she became a mom during her tenure on the show, andit offered her some stability during the early years of her daughter’s life. Katy gave birth to Daisy Dove Bloom on July 07, 2025.

On the other hand,Carrie is ready to settle into her jobas the newestAmerican Idoljudge. She ended her Las Vegas residency,Reflection, on August 16, 2025, just in time for the live shows to begin on April 21. I can see thatCarrie is completely focused onAmerican Idol, while Katy wants to turn her attention to other things in her career.

I loved Katy as anAmerican Idoljudge, and I miss her greatly on the show. However, I’m so proud of her as she moves forward with her career and other endeavors. I’m also a very big fan of Carrie, so I’ve enjoyed having her as anAmerican Idoljudge as well. These two powerful and successful women are phenomenal role models, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for both of them in their extraordinary careers.

American Idolairs Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
