Brutal Legend Is The Perfect Game To Memorialize Ozzy

Fans Would Kill For A Brutal Legend Remaster

Brutal Legendis a cinematic comedy action game from 2009 starring Jack Black and featuring Ozzy Osbourne as The Guardian of Metal. After Ozzy’s recent passing, it’s regained popularity among video game and heavy metal enthusiasts alike. The game is hilarious and includesarguably one of the best video game metal soundtracks of all time.Currently, you’re able to play the original on PC via Steam or onXbox Game Pass, as well as Xbox 360 or PS3 (time to dust them off!).

However, while there have been jokes aboutBrutal Legendgetting a remasterand an elaborate discussion on the Double Fine blog about the possibilities of aBrutal Legend 2,I think it’s time to take the idea seriously.Brutal Legendis a cult classic and 100% deserves a remaster, if not a dedicated sequel.

Double Finenoted back in October 2024, on the game’s 15-year anniversary, that whileBrutal Legend 2was"not in the [cards] for now, it’s certainly a universe many folks here at the studio wonder about returning to.“I can’t help but wonder if Ozzy’s passing and therenewed interest in the game might be the spark developers needto get this sequel kickstarted.

Brutal Legend 2 Could Honor Ozzy’s Life Better Than Any Other Game

A Brutal Legend Sequel Can Let Players Say Goodbye To The Prince Of Darkness

ABrutal Legendremaster or sequel is probably the best and most respectful opportunity to give players a chance tosay goodbye to Ozzy in a video game format. His role in the original game as The Guardian of Metal included an absolute treasure trove of incredible dialogue, and it would be a treat to be able to hear this again on modern consoles.

A sequel could lay The Guardian of Metal to rest and give gamers and metal heads their own chance to say goodbye in the best way possible.

A sequel could come with countless ways to honor Ozzy’s life and work. While I wouldn’t Double Fine to mimic Ozzy with AI, there would certainly be ways to eitherrepurpose lines or even include unused recordings from the originalthat didn’t make it into the game, assuming those exist. Alternatively, a sequel could lay The Guardian of Metal to rest and give gamers and metalheads their own chance to say goodbye in the best way possible.

I don’t think there’s any better video game setting to honor Ozzy’s life than Brutal Legend, and even if we never see a remaster or sequel, the original is well worth picking back up if you want to pay tribute to the Prince of Darkness. For now, I’ll keep my fingers devil-horned and hope that Double Fine gives us aBrutal Legendremaster and/or sequel sometime soon, giving players a chance for a final farewell to the irreplaceable and universally loved metal icon, Ozzy Osbourne.
