Warning: Spoilers ahead forResident Alienseason 4, episode 6, “Soul Providers.“Alan Tudyk revealed something aboutResident Alienseason 4 that very quickly seemed like the show’s star had been lying, but episode 6, “Soul Providers,” proves he was telling the truth. The leader of theResident Aliencasthas played Harry Vanderspeigle since the show began in 2021.

Tudyk has played characters other than Harry inResident Alien, and he even directed season 4’s first two episodes. So, he is very attuned to the show’s storylines and what narrative twists are on their way. When he’s not stuck in human form,Harry’s powers inResident Alienmake him a formidable opponent, but Tudyk has revealed there is a more intimidating presence.

Alan Tudyk as Harry Vanderspeigle holding the Mantid’s head in Resident Alien

Alan Tudyk Calling The Mantid “The Most Dangerous Alien In The Universe” Felt Like A Lie When Heather Killed Him Easily

The Mantid was torn to shreds pretty quickly

Speaking withNerds That GeekaboutResident Alienseason 4, Alan Tudyk labeled the Mantid, who is voiced by Clancy Brown, as “the most dangerous alien in the universe.” From the Mantid’s brief presence at the beginning of season 4, Tudyk’s appraisal seemed very much like it could have been accurate. However,Brown’s character was taken down a little too easily.

The Blue Avian ripped the Mantid to shreds with her bare claws, and Brown’s character didn’t look like he ever stood much of a chance.

The return of Heather (Edi Patterson) brought her into immediate conflict with the Mantid, and she came out on top in a matter of seconds. The Blue Avian ripped the Mantid to shreds with her bare claws, and Brown’s character didn’t look like he ever stood much of a chance. The Mantid seemed like a promising villain, so his hasty exit was disappointing.

As well as feeling like the Mantid was underutilized, his death also made it seem like Tudyk was perhaps misleading the audience or misinterpreting the threat the Mantid posed. There’s no doubt that the Mantid is a cold and lethal killer, but his intimidation factor felt like it had been irreparably damaged when Heather defeated him so quickly.

The Mantid’s Resurrection In “Soul Providers” Validates Tudyk’s Claim

Clancy Brown will surely be back to voice the Mantid again soon

As it turns out, Tudyk unsurprisingly knew what he was talking about.Resident Alienseason 4, episode 6, “Soul Providers”, reveals the Mantid’s extensive regenerative ability, which has essentially allowed him to come back from the dead. ConsideringResident Alienseason 4 was short of other bad guys after the Mantid’s exit, this is a huge relief.

Looking back, Tudyk’s comment about the Mantid could be viewed as a sort of cryptic spoiler. Even thougheveryone saw the Mantid die on-screen, the nature and timing of his death didn’t align with the actor’s description of the nefarious insectoid. Either way, I’m just glad thatResident Alienisn’t going to waste Clancy Brown’s character.
