More About Murder at the Patel Motel

Maulik Pancholy’s Scripted Podcast Series Premieres June 5

In the clip above, Pally’s character is going over the facts of the case and finds himself in disbelief that the last thing Milan said to his father was, “My life would be better off if you were just dead.” While that is a bad enough start, things get worse when it’s revealed that the pen Milan used to try to save his father was not an EpiPen but an Ozempic pen. The label was peeled off, meaning perhaps the father was hiding his usage from the family… or maybesomeone else wanted to conceal the pen’s real purpose during the false rescue.

Whatever skeletons are hidden in the Patel family closet, the audio drama (executive produced by Britta von Schoeler and Pancholy himself, and produced by Mark Valdez) approaches them with a light touch that befits the comedic tone. Many of the voice actors have already proven their cops in comedy, whether it’s Soni inDeadpool & Wolverineor Jagannathan inNever Have I Ever. But perhaps more important is the human touch, which ensures that the journey of a gay son reconnecting with his estranged family amidst a whirlwind of tragedy never feels trite or overplayed.
