Mario Cantone explains why he requested that his character have more nudity inAnd Just Like Thatseason 3. The sequel spinoff was spawned from the well-receivedSex and the City, which was a series that originally ran from 1998 to 2004 and was also adapted into two movies. And Just Like Thatthen debuted in 2021 and has had two completed seasons. And Just Like Thatreturns for season 3on Thursday, May 29, and features Cantone, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, and Sara Ramirez.

Before season 3 started filming, I said to [showrunner and executive producer Michael Patrick King], ‘I want more nudity.’

[After a season 2 episode that featured some nudity] my DMs blew up the next day. I want more nudity.

What This Means For And Just Like That

Sex And The City Has Always Been Notable For Its Sex Scenes

Sex and the Citywas always a trailblazing show when it came to portraying sex, nudity, and relationships. It is famously one of the first mainstream shows to really explore the topic of women’s self-pleasure, notably featuring a rabbit vibrator in its first season. It also portrayed gay relationships before most television shows featured LGBTQ+ people. For Cantone, this included a relationship between his character, Anthony, and Stanford Blatch, who later got married in the series. Showing older actors in the nude, as Cantone encourages, is another way of stepping out of convention.

Interestingly, Cantone encouraged the showrunner to feature more of his character showing skin. Too often, actors seem inclined to ask show creators how they can scale back their scantily clad scenes. The Boysstar Jack Quaid, for example, has expressed his desire for reduced nudity in the show’s fifth season after his character was put in promiscuous positions in season 4. Cantone has a very different perspective from many other actors, which he connects directly to his age.

Our Take On Cantone’s Request

Time Will Tell Whether His Wishes Have Been Granted

Cantone did not reveal whether Michael Patrick King actually followed his request. By the end ofAnd Just Like Thatseason 2, however, Anthony is dating Giuseppe. The pair finally have sex towards the end of that season, and if they remain together in the elapsed time between seasons 2 and 3, it seems like there will be the opportunity for Cantone to be in the nude again, as he wants.
