Andorcreator Tony Gilroy discussed that he will not make anything like theStar Warsshow ever again.Andoris a prequel show to the hitStar Warsprequel movieRogue One, and focuses on the formative years of pilot and smuggler Cassian Andor, in the five years leading up to the events of theStar Warsmovies.
The series received critical acclaim during its two-season run from 2022-2025, and is considered to be one of thebestStar WarsTV shows. Having written the screenplay forRogue One, Gilroy already had the foundations in place forAndor, and fully immersed himself in the day-to-day running of the show, as well as the creative decisions involved.

PerThe Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy discussed the immersive experience he had when makingAndor, and how he was heavily involved in pretty much every facet of the show, from the writing to the casting to the music, and how he found it hard to imagine having a similar experience with any other project.
He discussed how he could envisage himself doing a limited series in the future, but nothing like the immersive, multi-year experience he had makingAndor. He mentioned how much he loved the experience, but couldn’t imagine being that engaged with a project ever again. Check out Gilroy’s comments below:

I could see doing a limited series or something, but I can’t see doing anything like this again. For five and a half years, every single day of my life, I had a maximally imaginative involvement that was never complete — writing, designing, music, casting, all of it.
Every demand on your imagination that could ever be asked was screaming for your attention. That’s a pretty heady place to live. I grew to love it. But I can’t imagine that I would ever be that fully engaged again.

What This Means For Gilroy’s Andor Experience & Future Career Path
Being that Gilroy has worked predominantly in movies, withAndorrepresenting his first outing as a television showrunner, it was likely a very different experience. His comments suggest that he enjoyed the process, but probably found it all-consuming in places, which might be why he seems reluctant to have that level of immersive input in future projects.
Andorseason 2pushed boundaries for the show, and the franchise, and will no doubt have pushed Gilroy creatively as well. It’s possible he reached a place of creative burnout during his time working on the show, and might choose to take a more stripped-back role in future projects moving forward.
Our Take On Gilroy’s Post-Andor Career
While it’s unclear the long-term direction Gilroy might take now thatAndorhas finished, the success and popularity of the show increases hopes that he might be involved in futureStar Warsmovies. However, the fact that he’s expressed interest in possibly doing a limited series means the door to TV is not completely closed.
WhileAndorandRogue Oneremain as strong bodies of work across theStar Warsuniverse, there are bound to be more opportunities for Gilroy to be involved in the franchise. But he might be reluctant to have that level of input into a project again, and this could result in a change of trajectory in his career post-Andor.
