Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Will Trent Season 3.Angie Polaski’s (Erika Christensen) pregnancy and the birth of her baby will have an impact on season 4 of the police procedural,Will Trent. Although Sara Linton, a key figure inKarin Slaughter’sWill Trentbook series, has not made her introduction yet, her arrival could be a terrible development.Angie’s pregnancy seemingly coincides with Sara’s backstory, which will rock Will’s (Ramon Rodriguez) world.

During the third season, Angie discovered she is pregnant with Dr. Seth McDale’s (Scott Foley) baby. Because Angie and Will grew up in the foster care system together, she seemed destined to be his true love. Unfortunately, the ups and downs of their rollercoaster relationship drove a wedge between them. With his heart broken, Will has to move on and let Angie continue her life with another man.

AlthoughWill Trent’s characterization has not changed much from Slaughter’s books, the ABC drama has avoided adapting the dark tone and violent aspects of the novels. As such theWill Trentshow creators may or may not use Sara’s backstory if she is brought onto the hit procedural as Will’s love interest. But if the creators do, Sara’s past may set the stage for a horribly sad irony.

Sara Is Forced To Have A Hysterectomy In Karin Slaughter’s Will Trent Books

In the eleventh book of theWill Trentseries,After That Nightexplores the unresolved issues of Sara’s past, which she reveals to her romantic partner, Will. Whilesuffering a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy, Sara had a hysterectomy, in which the surgical procedure removed the uterus. After realizing she would never conceive a child, Sara moved back home to find solace in Grant County.

Sara made her introduction inthe thirdWill Trentbook,Undone, before she revealed her origin story in the eleventh installment. If Sara is introduced and becomes Will’s new love interest after Angie in the show, their relationship would still have to grow and be built on trust. Although Will eventually marries Sara in the books, his thoughts on being unable to start a family would be worth exploring on the show.

Ramon Rodriguez as Will Trent in the Will Trent season 1 finale

If Sara makes her debut on the show, it will be devastating to watch how Will reacts when he learns he can never have a biological child with her. Added to this would be the ironic pain of watching his former love interest, Angie, raise a child with someone else. As such, Will’schances at fatherhoodseem diminished with Angie and Sara.

When Might ABC’s Will Trent Introduce Sara

TheWill Trentseason 3 finale set up Sara’s arrivaland suggested she might be on her way. During the finale, a viral outbreak took place in the Atlanta hospital. Will may have been able to stop the terrorist attack, but he was way out of his league against the Founders Front. As a medical examiner, Sara has experience in emergency rooms and could pop in during the fourth season to prevent the next disaster.

Before moving to Atlanta, Sara was the small-town coroner from Grant County. Her character would definitely show up when Trent has to investigate a mysterious death. Just like other procedurals, Sara would report on the findings, such as the cause and manner of death, from her autopsy. This introduction to Sara would easily make sense in the narrative, but their romantic relationship would have to gradually evolve on the show, just like in the books.

Angie’s pregnancy has put a damper on Will’s quest for true love. In the book series, Sara and Will have gone through obstacles in their relationship before becoming the romantic endgame. A major event from Sara’s past would be worth exploring on ABC’sWill Trent, but it would need to be part of an ongoing multi-episode arc if brought into season 4. Hopefully, viewers will stick around and continue to watch Will’s personal growth, even if the themes take a mature tone.
