The nostalgia for that arcade experience of the 80s and 90s is something that a lot of gamers long for. It is no surprise that a number of arcade bars have sprung up in recent years, catering to this demographic. More recently, arcade units for home usage have hit the market, like theSNK Arcade Machine featuring 50 classic games. The latest to join the home collection is a sleek looking cabinet forOutRun.
OutRunis a classic racing title, known for pioneering hardware and graphics when it landed in arcades in 1986. At the time, it set the standard for what a racing game could do, pushing the graphical envelope, much like theGran Turismofranchise does today.

For this home arcade unit, the game is in good hands with the people over at Arcade1Up. The cabinet has all the bells and whistles of a classic cabinet, except for the quarter-munching coin slot. The cabinet features art that takes players back to the arcades of the 80s, but comes with modern features to improve the experience like a 17" LCD screen and dual speakers. OutRunwas created by legendary Sega game designer Yu Suzuki, and represents an important part of Sega’s history. Recently the company’s arcade division has come under hard times, withSega recently selling off their arcade department, which runs their legendary arcades in Japan.
While the heyday of arcades may have passed, bringing that experience home is something that fans can do, and this cabinet makes a great case to do just that.
