RecentAssassin’s Creedtitles have been impressive when it comes to scale and content value. The massive open-world adventures of theOrigins-Valhallaera have treated fans to some of the most unique action RPG games to date. However, the recentAssassin’s Creed Miragebrought the franchise back to its rootswith a more simplistic and smaller-scale approach that better suited the game’s setting. This opens the door to future games in the series to stick to the classic style, the RPG style, or something else altogether, depending on where it is set. With so many options on the table, it makesAssassin’s Creed Nebula’s rumored Aztec Empire setting all the more enticing.

Future Assassin’s Creed Games

TheAssassin’s Creedgames have brought players to far corners around the globe, but the Aztec Empire at the height of its power would be incredibly unique. As originally reported by Insider Gaming,Nebulawas pitched to beanAssassin’s Creedgame with three different settings. These settings are said to be India, the Mediterranean, and the Aztec Empire. This pitch came from Ubisoft Sofia, known to have co-developedAssassin’s Creed 3: LiberationandAssassin’s Creed Rogue.

Currently, these reports are just leaks and have not been confirmed by Ubisoft.Ubisoft has officially announced fourAssassin’s Creedtitlesin the lineup;Mirage, Red, Jade, andHexe, withMiragebeing out now. Assassin’s Creed Aztec Empire

AnAssassin’s Creedgame set in the Aztec Empirehas the potential for incredible locations, gameplay, story elements, and characters. The Aztecs were a unique society, highly advanced for their time with a sprawling empire that reigned for hundreds of years. They flourished amid the deep jungles of Mexico with an array of city-states and communities connected through trade and military conquest. Their culture, architecture, and beliefs were fascinating and rich, a perfect opportunity for anAssassin’s Creedgame.

An Aztec Empire game could work well inthe classicAssassin’s Creedstyleor the larger open-world direction. Traversing through the jungles at night fighting against rivals or even jaguars as an Aztec assassin is something no other game has captured. It’d be interesting to see what story Ubisoft would choose for this setting, perhaps dealing with the Spanish conquest. Unfortunately, there is not much to go off of besides rumors at this time. However, the Aztec Empire is a setting worth exploring inAssassin’s Creed.
