Gamers who had been hopeful thatBaldur’s Gate 3would allow them to add a pair of pistols to their arsenal may have to rethink their loadout, as developer Larian Studios has announced that it currently has “no plans” to add a Gunslinger class to the game. While the RPG lets gamers customize their character in a variety of ways, as illustrated by the early access player who madeDungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’Doric inBaldur’s Gate 3, it appears firearms aren’t on the table for now.

Based on the 5th edition rules of theDungeons & Dragonstabletop game,Baldur’s Gate 3has already received positive praise from many players of its multi-year early access period on PC. With a massive scope and scale rivaling that of the tabletopD&Dcampaigns that served as its inspiration, whenBaldur’s Gate 3releases on PCand PlayStation 5 in the coming weeks it could set a new bar for RPG games.

While players will be able to choose from a multitude of different playableraces and classes inBaldur’s Gate3when it releases, one class they won’t be able to choose is Gunslinger. Even though most gamers are likely to picture swords and sorcery when they think ofD&D, the homebrew Gunslinger class has become a popular option for many players in recent years. According to Larian Studios, though, players shouldn’t expect to play as a Gunslinger inBaldur’s Gate 3any time soon. Speaking toThe Gamer, the studio said, “For now, we have no plans to add a Gunslinger class or firearms.”
Supplementing the typical fantasy trappings ofDungeons & Dragonswith an infusion of firearms, Gunslinger characters open the door to creative new playstyles and could have made for an interesting addition toBaldur’s Gate 3. Although Larian Studios’ statement about the popular homebrew class leaves some potential wiggle room for Gunslingers to be added to the game down the road, for the time being, players will have to be content with taking on more traditional fantasy archetypes.
Even though gamers may not be able to step into the shoes of a Gunslinger when they load upBaldur’s Gate 3later this year, the sprawling RPG should offer enough customization options to keep most players happy. And with 17,000 possibleendings inBaldur’s Gate 3to discover, gamers will have plenty of chances to find their perfect class on subsequent playthroughs.
