The start of a new Major Order inHelldivers 2has brought a not insignificant update to the game, which has unfortunately introduced a disastrous bug. Helldivers are currently being dispatched to defend certain planets from a fresh Automaton assault, which has seen the debut of a new enemy type, but it has also had unforeseen consequences relating to the One True Flag stratagem.
Following the update pushed on July 15, patch 01.003.200,planting the One True Flag causes every other player’s game to crash. Footage of the bizarre bug can be seen onReddit, where user Sad-Needleworker-590 plants a flag in the street, only to have their teammate freeze in place before disappearing. The bug affects every player in the lobby other than the person who planted it. The One True Flag was added toHelldivers 2via the Masters of Ceremony Warbond in May 2025, and serves as a melee support weapon stratagem.

Only a few hours after the One True Flag bug was introduced to the game, a community manager from developer Arrowhead Game Studios posted on the officialHelldiversDiscordserver that they are aware of it.“We are aware of issues surrounding the One True Flag and are investigating a fix,“the message reads. No further information has been provided by the developer. Such bugs haven’t been uncommon inHelldivers 2, a side effect of some of the morewacky itemsin the game, but they’re usually fixed in a fairly timely manner.

An Easy Way To Ruin Someone Else’s Game
The most unfortunate aspect of the One True Flag bug is that it’s easy to exploit to grief other players. It seemingly does not affect the host, and not only removes all teammates from the game, but crashes their client.Players will want to be wary of anyone selecting the One True Flag before dropping into a mission, and be sure to keep an eye on anyone joining via SOS beacon. It’s also possible you could join a game that already has a flag down, which reportedly also results in crashing.
It’s an unfortunately poor look for the game roughly a month ahead of itsrelease on Xbox, but theHelldivers 2devs are usually pretty quick with hotfixes for such issues. It has sadly put a bit of a damper on a fun update, which added a bipedal Automaton mech of sorts.Annoying your squadwith unintentional friendly fire is just part of the experience inHelldivers 2, but there are likely plenty of players who would intentionally grief others with this new bug.
