Even after two years since its release,Baldur’s Gate 3never ceases to surprise players with its incredible intricacies and nuances. One BG3 fan just discovered yet another instance of Larian’s incredibly deep reactivity in its NPCs, and it’s a great example of why this game stands in a league of its own when it comes to immersive RPGs.

Reddit userReasonable_Run3567shared an incredibly niche reaction with an Act One NPC named Benryn, declaring thatLarian is playing"4D chess"when it comes to its NPC reactivity. The corpse of Benryn’s wife can be found near the NPC, and if you hide her before rescuing him, Benryn will actually ask Tav to help him search for the corpse.

Larian Thought This Interaction Out More Than You’d Expect

Benryn is an Act 1 NPC inBaldur’s Gate 3that you’ll encounter in Waukeen’s Rest, the burning inn where you cansave Counsellor Florrickfrom certain death. He’s theguy trapped under a massive beamthat you can rescue if you pass an ability check, and after doing so, he’ll discover his bride’s corpse and set Tav out on the"Rescue the Trapped Man"quest to recover herDowry Ring.

However, if you’re playing adepravedBaldur’s Gate 3characterand choose to steal and hide the bride Mirileth’s corpse before you rescue Benryn from the fire, you’ll get the unique scenario that Larian clearly planned for. After rescuing Benryn,he’ll look around for Mirileth’s body and ask you to help him find her. After showing him where you stashed it, he will thank you, and you’re able to then complete the Dowry quest as usual.
