It’s been 19 years sinceJet Set Radio: Future, the stylish extreme sports action game from Sega and Smilebit, launched on the original Xbox, and since then the series has laid dormant with little more than a HD re-release of the first instalment and some appearances inSonicracing games. In absence of the beloved cult franchise, developer Team Reptile has taken it upon itself to create the spiritual successor toJet Set Radiothat fans have waited for withBomb Rush Cyberfunk, which its newest gameplay trailer has revealed is preparing to release on “all relevant platforms” in 2022.

Team Reptile is mainly known for its work on extreme sports fighting gameLethal League Blaze, which is heavily inspired by the visual and musical style of theJet Set Radioseries. In that respect,Bomb Rush Cyberfunkis the next logical step for the studio, which has been inspired by Sega’s series from day 1.

The teaser, which is only thirty-three seconds long, reveals that the game features a visual style that pays pixel perfect tribute to 2002’sJet Set Radio: Future, featuring angular, futuristic character designs in a sprawling, colorful city. The trailer also features a track titled “Get Enuf"fromJet Set Radiocomposer Hideki Naganuma, who will be composingBomb Rush Cyberfunk’s soundtrack. While the trailer is brief, it reveals some of the game’s different playable characters and showcases some of the parkour elements, such as wall-running and grinding.

While this trailer does come with the unfortunate news thatBomb Rush Cyberfunkhas been delayed to 2022, given that Sega seems to be done with theJet Set Radiofranchise, waiting an extra year seems a lot more manageable than never seeing a game with such an overflowing and distinct sense of visual and musical flair ever again.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunkwill launch in 2022 on “all relevant platforms.”
