This prologue was set in the future and fans only got a tiny glimpse of it, however, it was very interesting to see that Boruto Uzumaki had already lost an eye by this point in time. He was also seen wearing clothes similar to those of Sasuke and bearing his sword as well. Finally, after years of mystery, it has been explained in the manga how Boruto lost his eye and this whole huge significance in the future of the story.
Boruto’s Eye
Boruto Uzumaki is a special Shinobi. This should not be a surprise to any fan of the franchise as his father is none other than Naruto Uzumaki, the person who was entrusted with one-half of the Sage’s power, and his mother is Hinata Hyuga, who is a direct descendant of Hamura Otsutsuki. As such, Boruto has a strong predisposition when itcomes to the Otsutsuki powersand this was confirmed by Momoshiki when the two met as well. Before Boruto was branded but the Karma seal, the Otsutsuki power was still very strong within him. This was one of the reasons why Momoshiki chose him as his vessel. After all, Not just anyone is good enough for an Otsutsuki to use as a vessel.
In Boruto, the powers of the Otsutsuki first manifested themselves in the form of the Jogan. Fans are very well aware of the power that Dojutsu have in the world of Naruto, however, this eye is in a league of its own and the true extent of its power has still not been explained to the fans. From what fans know so far, the Jogan has properties similar to those of the Byakugan, however, it can also detect weak points in a person’s body and, at the same time, also see rifts in space and time. Boruto’s eye was always special and, going forward, its importance has grown even more, now that Boruto has finally lost it in the main plot as well.

How Boruto Lost His Eye
InBorutochapter 78, fans finally sawhim clash against Kawakiatop the Hokage faces. The two have engaged in many training duels in the past, however, this was the first time that Kawaki and Boruto went at each other with killing intent. The reason for this was Boruto being possessed by Momoshiki. Kawaki does not want anyone to harm Naruto Uzumaki, who is his savior and benefactor. However, the very existence of Momoshiki within Boruto means that he will always be a threat to Naruto. As such, Kawaki decided to seal away Naruto so that he does not get in his way when he attempts to kill his son, along with all the other Otsutsuki Clan members in the world.

Kawaki, being the one with the killing intent, dominated the majority of the fight. When Sarada entered the battle, she was not aware of the threat that Kawaki posed. With a weak resolve, she joined the fight and almost found herself getting killed, had Boruto not saved her. Kawaki was aiming to slash her head off, however, due to Boruto’s intervention, the blade got his right eye instead, blinding him permanently. Finally, fans have their answer to how Boruto Uzumaki lost his right eye. While it may not seem to be something major at first glance, this holds great significance to the story moving forward.
The Importance Of Boruto’s Eye
InBorutochapter 78, the young Uzumaki finally lost his eye after Kawaki slashed right across it and, for a normal person, that would be enough to blind them forever. While this is true for Boruto as well, it also leads to the awakening of the Jogan. While Boruto’s human eye is lost, the Jogan that he possesses is still alive. The Jogan was seen getting triggered shortly after Kawaki slashed his right eye. As fans know already, the emergence of the Jogan usually indicates that Momoshiki has taken control over Boruto’s body. However, in the prologue of the story, Boruto has conscious control over the Jogan, meaning that him losing this eye is of great significance.
Finally, Boruto can start training this eye and learn its powers. He has already lost his right eye and the only way he can see through it is when he activates the Jogan. As such, him losing his eye means that the time has come for him to start learning about his Otsutsuki powers and the secret of the Jogan. Thankfully for him, Momoshiki knows everything there is to know about the various Shinjutsu that exist in the world of Boruto. At the same time, he has a master of Dojutsu in Sasuke, who can help him train this eye and gain conscious control over it.While Kawaki would certainly not have wanted it, him slashing across his eye and blinding him only strengthens Boruto further. It gives him the incentive to learn control over the Jogan and how to properly use it in battle. Fans will certainly see that in the coming future inBoruto: Naruto Next Generations.
