With Activision having chosen to have a very low-key presence at E3 this year, it seems the publisher has decided to drop its big announcements just beforehand - the main one obviously being their next bigCall of Dutytitle, which is nowconfirmed to be calledModern Warfare(which will no doubt confuse a lot of people). However, some info that may be overlooked are the new details regarding theCall of Dutymobile game and its battle royale mode.
In ablog post on the official Activision website, the mode seems unsurprisingly similar toPUBG(which some may argue ultimately defined the genre) though Activision’s editorial manager David Hodgson prefers to compare it to the Blackout mode fromBlack Ops 4. The rules and objectives are fundamentally the same as other battle royale titles - 100 players drop into a massive map, (which wasshared onlineearlier this week) filled with recognizable locations from theCall of Dutyseries, and take part in a free-for-all to become the last player standing. There will also be options for duos and four-person teams.
However, it will take some cues from the aforementioned Blackout mode, like how players can retrieve dog tags from fallen teammates to revive them. Loadout elements will also be featured so players can customize their appearance.
The main difference betweenCall of DutyMobileand other battle royale games, though, is the inclusion of six different Classes:
This could be what the game needs to help it stand out from the pack and make both fans of theCall of Dutyseries and other battle-royale games give it a shot. For those more interested in the next major title, it will bea soft reboot of theModern Warfareseries, and will be inspired by the very controversial “No Russians” mission fromModern Warfare 2.
Call of Duty: Mobilewill release for free later this year on iOS and Android.
