Summary

Following last month’s open beta, players are sharing their annoyance with operators inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3due to their generic or cheesy names in the game. Call of Dutyfan Guar2 pointed out the operator names forModern Warfare 3in jest, and many other players are chiming in with their own thoughts on the matter. The community is seemingly baffled at some of the names such as “Swagger” and “BBQ” since the operators appear to be generic soldiers without notable traits or designs. In the case of Swagger, players are making jokes about the name since the operator is wearing a gas mask that covers their entire head. In a well-received comment under Guar2’s post, Reddit user ViperFive1 believesModern Warfare 3’soperators are like “off brandGI Joecharacters” due to their bizarre names.

SomeCall of Dutyfans do not mindthe new operators inModern Warfare 3since their names are call signs just like the ones used by popular characters in the series, including Ghost and Soap. On the other hand, longtime players argue that Ghost and Soap were well established due to the manyCall of Dutygames over the years, whereas operators like Bantam and Riptide may not have characteristics that justify the names.

It’s highly unlikely that Sledgehammer Games will change any of the existing operator names inModern Warfare 3, but feedback could help the studio develop post-launch operators that fans can better identify with and view as potential favorites. Fortunately, players still have the option to choose an existing operator fromModern Warfare 2alongside skins and bundles they purchased.Price and Makarov are playable operators inModern Warfare 3with new skins as well.

The fullModern Warfare 3game will be available on November 10, so many more players will soon share their experiences with the new operators in the weeks and months to come. Sledgehammer Games will update the game over the course of multiple seasons just like Infinity Ward did forModern Warfare 2. Ahead of launch, one of the game’s multiplayer leaks suggestsa fast food-inspired operator is coming toModern Warfare 3at some point, which could also prove divisive.
