What This Means For Captain Planet

Given his pedigree, Netflix has tapped one of the right people to help develop aCaptain Planetlive-action series.

Captain Planethas existed in the pop culture lexicon for 35 years. While the franchise has seen other inclusions, including video games and comic books, its most famous version outside of the original isDon Cheadle portraying the character in aFunny or Diesketch in 2011, which was entirely played for humor.

Our Take On Captain Planet Getting A Live-Action Show

It Was The Least Interesting Superhero Show Of The ’90s

Nostalgia plays a large role in television and movies today. Instead of original ideas, there are endless reboots, revivals, and sequels.Captain Planet and the Planeteersstands out more as an interesting relicthan a franchise worth continuing.

I grew up with shows from the ’80s and ’90s, andCaptain Planetwas the show you watched because you had nothing else happening that day, or just left the TV on. Othersuperhero shows released in the ‘90swere simply more engaging and timeless.Children’s programming in the ’90s had to push positive messages, and there’s nothing wrong withCaptain Planet and the Planeteers, although it’s really not that interesting.

It has an undeniably catchy theme song, but that’s about it. A live-action reboot ofCaptain Planetwill have some novelty to it for bringing back a superhero show from the ’90s. However, it will need to add more to the formula than what was seen before to be a hit.
