The newWonder Womanhas finally received an excitingDC Universeupdate, and that got me thinking about who could take over the role.Gal Gadot will not return to play Diana Prince in the DCU. That opens the door for a new actress to get cast in the coveted role. From what we saw with the Superman audition process, a long list of stars will have to fight to play Wonder Woman inDC’s movie slate.

That will begin with a solo entry, as James Gunn revealed thata Wonder Woman movie is in development, currently being written at DC Studios. With Gadot out afterWonder Woman 3’s cancellation, there are a few actresses that would be perfect for this new take on the character. Some of them are popular picks among fans, others have commented on possibly playing Wonder Woman, and a few would be interesting surprises. Here are a few exciting candidates for the DCU’s Wonder Woman:

Wonder Woman (2017) Movie Poster

10Bruna Marquezine

The Star Already Has Ties To DC

First up is Bruna Marquezine, who is no stranger to DC. The actress was part of the old DCEU, whereshe played Jenny, daughter of Ted Kord, who was the franchise’s Blue Beetle — offscreen — before Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime Reyes.

The list is not in any specific order.

Since the Blue Beetle movie was a box office disappointment, the character is moving to animation, with a DCU series planned. While Marquezine could return to voice Jenny there, I believe her talents would be better suited for the big screen.Marquezine was almost cast as Supergirl inThe Flash, and herBlue Beetlerole showed the fierce attitude and charm Wonder Woman needs.

9Charlee Fraser

The Actress Would Be A Unique Wonder Woman Casting Choice

Superman star David Corenswet has long been said to look like Henry Cavill. In the same way,Charlee Fraser resembles a younger Gal Gadot, which would make her casting as Wonder Woman unique among the other candidates on the list. However, Fraser has a lot to offer for the role besides that connection.

As proven by her turn inFuriosa: A Mad Max Saga,Fraser would be able to bring great nuance to Wonder Woman. The actress was responsible for a few moving moments in the film, bringing an emotional performance to life. She also displayed the confidence and fighter attitude that one expects from Diana Prince.

8Grace Caroline Currey

A Former DC Superhero Could Take A New Role

Like Bruna Marquezine, Grace Caroline Currey is another former DCEU star who could be cast in a new role in James Gunn’s DC Universe. After all, Jason Momoa going from Aquaman to Lobo showed that was possible.Currey played Mary Bromfield in the DCEU’sShazam!movies, becoming a standout in the franchise.

InShazam!, Currey only played the younger version of her character. However,Shazam! Fury of the Godshad her also play her DC hero counterpart. The actress nailed both sides of the character, which would ensure she could bring a double-edged performance to Wonder Woman. Like Superman with Clark Kent, the DCU’s Wonder Woman and Diana Prince sides need to be served equally.

7Eiza González

The Actress Has History With DC Outside The Screen

Eiza González has been fancast in many DC roles over the years. It also helps that the actress did try out for a major character a few years ago. González was one of the stars whoauditioned to play Catwoman opposite Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne inThe Batman, which I would have loved to see.

Since that role ended up going to the excellent Zoë Kravitz, González could still find a place in DC in the form of Wonder Woman. Herrecent turn opposite John Krasinski in the Indiana Jones-like movieFountain of Youthshowed she has the charm, grit, and action experience to bring Wonder Woman to life.

6May Calamawy

An MCU Star Could Be The DCU’s Ideal Wonder Woman

May Calamawy is another name on the list who has experience playing a superhero. The actress' breakout role was as an original hero for the MCU, with Calamawygiving life to Layla El-Faouly, aka Scarlet Scarab. Calamawy’s chemistry with Oscar Isaac’s Marc Spector and Steven Grant madeMoon Knightan exciting affair.

2017

2020

Wonder Woman DCU Reboot

TBD

Sadly,it seems likeMoon Knightseason 2 may never happen, despite the show’s finale perfectly setting up more adventures. Since there does not appear to be a clear plan to use her in the MCU, I think DC should consider scooping up Calamawy for Wonder Woman. Her Diana could be brave, witty, and a force onscreen.

5Ana De Armas

One Of The Biggest Stars The DCU Could Cast As Wonder Woman

Few stars could bring the kind of gravitas that Wonder Woman should have like Ana de Armas. Asone of Hollywood’s most popular actresses, getting her to be the face of the biggest female hero in the DCU would be a major deal for the franchise.

De Armas would excel at Wonder Woman’s fighting scenes while also bringing perhaps the best performance out of any actress on the list.

The star has plenty of action experience for the role. Recently,de Armas showed the full scope of those skills in theJohn WickspinoffBallerina. De Armas would excel at Wonder Woman’s fighting scenes while also bringing perhaps the best performance out of any actress on the list. Her dramatic and comedic skills make her the whole package for Wonder Woman.

4Monica Barbaro

A Star In The Making For The DCU

SinceGal Gadot’s time as Wonder Woman included some criticisms of her acting, I believe the DCU needs to cast someone who can clearly make all that go away. Monica Barbaro would be such a choice, with her recent string of performances showing how she is a talent that studios can continue to put their hopes on.

Barbaro was recently nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscarfor her role as Joan Baez inA Complete Unknown. Despite being opposite Timothée Chalamet, one of Hollywood’s best, it was Barbaro who commanded the screen every time she appeared. With solid work inTop Gun: Maverick, Barbaro is perfect for Wonder Woman.

3Melissa Barrera

A Genre Switch For The Horror Star

Melissa Barrera has found her niche in Hollywood with horror movies. She became the lead of theScreamfranchise for two films, helping usher in a successful new era for the slasher genre. Barrera’s acting skills would allow her to play a Wonder Woman who firmly makes her presence known to all around her.

Based on her horror roots, I think that out of all the stars on the list,Barrera would be the perfect one to bring Absolute Wonder Woman to life. That recent version of Diana from DC Comics was raised in hell and thus has a harder shell. Elements of that run could distinguish the DCU’s Wonder Woman from Gal Gadot’s.

2Alexandra Daddario

Alexandra Daddario has been fancast as Wonder Woman for over a decade. During an interview withColliderin 2013,Daddario responded to a question about rumors she could be playing Wonder Woman, saying, “I would love to be.“Her role as Annabeth Chase in the Percy Jackson movies is a showcase of her skills.

Daddario made the daughter of Athena a charming character who was a fierce fighter and a compassionate leader. Those traits, plus the fact she excelled at the Greek connection, make her a good Wonder Woman choice.Daddario is also a DC star, having voiced Lois Lane in the animated Tomorrowverse continuity.

1Adria Arjona

The Fan-Favorite Wonder Woman Pick Has Experience In A Major Franchise

Over the past year, Adria Arjona has emerged as one of the most popular choices to play the DCU’s Wonder Woman. The actress has a list of credits that show she would excel in the role. Her performance as Bix Caleen inAndorconfirmedshe has the range to make Wonder Woman a force to be reckoned with.

Having experience in a major franchise like Star Wars would certainly help her be a key player in James Gunn’s DC Universe. With her roles inmovies likeHit Man, where she starred opposite Glen Powell, Arjona showcased her magnetic onscreen presence and ability to play a mix of comedy, charm, action, and more intense moments seamlessly. She would be a great choice for the DCU’sWonder Woman.
