No matter the lifepath that the player chooses,Nomad, Corpo-Rat, or Streetkid, after Jackie Welles teaches V how to make it big in Night City, they are introduced to Dex DeShawn, one of the most notorious fixers around. He hires the duo for a heist for client Evelyn Parker: stealing the Relic from Yorinobu Arasaka. This is the first big job for V and Jackie, and while they are counting future riches courtesy of Dex, Evelyn wants to cut the two a deal: sever ties with Dex and work with her directly.

CD Projekt Red is a company that wasn’t really known for releasing polished titles, but this game took things too far. A player’s enjoyment of the game was marred time and time again with a whole suite of bugs that showed just how rushed the development of this title really was, despite the game being delayed multiple times. Thankfully, after weathering the early storm of criticism, the studio fixed the issues one by one, and the game has reached a state where fans are actually hyped for the Phantom Liberty expansion despite the bad press this title generated a few years ago.
The start of Cyberpunk 2077 is a memorable one, with Johnny Silverhand not even making an appearance until the first major heist is completed in the game. To carry out this infiltration of Konpeki Plaza,V and Jackie need to enlist the help of two veterans of Night City—Dexter DeShawn and Evelyn Parker. Both these characters want to get their hands on the Relic for their own reasons and will try to sway V to their side while doing so. Who Are Dex and Evelyn?
Before even attempting to take a side between the two characters, the first thing players should be aware of is who Dex and Evelyn really are. While the game does a decent job of introducing both the people of Night City, there’s still not a ton of information that players get when it comes to their characters inCyberpunk 2077.
As a result, some people may find this decision to be hard, but players don’t need to worry — they can get more information on them by reading their bios and checking out any extra information in and around the city. Ultimately, both characters are pretty fascinating in their own right and play a huge role during the game’s prequel.
Dexter DeShawn
A legendary fixer in Night City who made a name for himself by arranging a wealth of high-paying gigs, Dexter DeShawn is one of the most intimidating characters that players interact withnear the start ofCyberpunk 2077. He has a larger-than-life presence that is made pretty clear by the very first interaction V has with him, blowing a cloud of smoke with his cigar while briefing the mercenary about what they need to do.

A rather impressive thing about Dexter is that he never really functioned as a merc before transitioning into the role of a fixer. His go-getter attitude and boundless charisma made him a shrewd negotiator, conducting his business in an impressive manner that helped him stay on top of the game with little to no issues.
Evelyn Parker
Most dolls in Night City are employed in the sex trade, having their minds wiped after their encounters with any client who may take things too far with their lascivious fantasies. Evelyn Parker is one such doll who clearly had some really influential clientele, given the fact that she entered Yorinobu Arasaka’s apartment — a rare treat that only the elite of Night City can enjoy.
She formed a long-lasting relationship with Judy Alvarez during their time in Clouds and eventually contacts V after learning about the details of a valuable Relic that holds the legendary Johnny Silverhand’s engram. She’s a pretty fascinating character, and her commanding presence makes the player’s first few hours in Night City pretty memorable indeed.
How to Side With Evelyn or Stay Loyal to Dex
As an incentive, Evelyn offers a 50% cut of the profits, which is much higher than what Dex is offering to pay, but in terms of tech and a tricked-out ride V and Jackie use during the mission itself, it’s clear that Dex’s profits aren’t going to waste. With a close relationship with Yorinobu Arasaka, the target, Evelyn Parker, is the one providing V with all the info they need to get the job going, but she won’t force V to side with her. After all, V reminds her that cutting out the fixer is very dangerous territory.
Siding With Evelyn
The first option needed to take to side with Evelyn is to answer her offer with “I’ll think about it.” Betraying one of the biggest fixers in Night City may not sound like the wisest course of action to take, but certain players might not be sold on Dex’s character and whether he would even honor his debts.

It helps thatEvelyn seems way more likable and trustworthy at first glance, and players who trust their gut should definitely think about siding with her instead of staying blindly loyal to Dex. After all, while the fixer might be helping the player out, he doesn’t exactly seem like the selfless or loyal type in any way.
Sticking With Dex
To side with Dex straight away with no turning back, the player should choose “No way, Dex trusts me.” But following meeting with Evelyn and going through a couple of braindance sessions, Jackie and V will meet with Dex, and they can use this information to get more profits from Dex if they want to side with him.

Dex explains that he normally offers new recruits a base 30% of the cut, but if V chooses to reveal Evelyn wants to cut him out of the deal, he’ll award the duo with 40% of the profits instead. If the player chooses to keep this information hidden, on the other hand, they can still haggle him up to 35% of the profit.

Should Players Side With Dex or Evelyn in Cyberpunk 2077?
It doesn’t seem to matter which party V chooses to side with. Because of the way the events of the heist go down, V and Jackie won’t get paid, and Dex will stab V in the back regardless, likely for more money in his pocket. This is a major story beat thatsetsCyberpunk 2077on its course, so these events go down all the same, no matter which options are chosen.
So, while it might be disappointing thatthis decision doesn’t really have any major repercussions further down the line, most people won’t mind this after witnessing the chain of events that lead to the main plot ofCyberpunk 2077kickstarting in the first place. It’s a wild ride that justifies why this decision doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. To make things even better, there are more than enough moments later on inCyberpunk 2077wherea player’s input will have a huge effecton how both the overarching narrative and self-contained storylines play out in the game.
