Dandadantopped itself once again with episode #18, and it left plenty to be excited about for episode #19 and beyond. Season 2 has been firing on all cylinders with both its bombastic and quiet moments, and even though there are still a few episodes left, there’s plenty of time for it to get even better.

Everything was all set for the Evil Eye’s exorcism, but Jiji got everyone to spare the Evil Eye, even though he still presented a major threat to them as he continued to go stronger. It was an episode that perfectly set the stage for the rest of the arc’s conflict, and hopefully, episode #19 will be a perfect follow up.

Dandadan Episode 17 Review: Starting The Next Arc Off On A High Note

Dandadan Episode 17 In Review

Dandadan’s latest arc is already off to a great start with episode #17. Visually speaking, while episode #17 was notably light on action, it was still filled with plenty of great and fluid artwork and animation, with some notable standouts being Momo and Okarun’s handholding scene and the return of the Evil Eye in the final scene.

Naturally, the writing was also very strong. Whether it was comedic scenes with the entire group, romantic scenes with Momo and Okarun, or heartfelt scenes like Jiji reuniting with his parents or Momo and Okarun comforting Aira after she lost all her friends, the writing was always on point and a perfect display of what makes the show so great.

The Evil Eye in episode 17

The first arc ofDandadanseason 2set the bar incredibly high, but fortunately,Dandadanepisode #17 was a perfect start for the next arc both visually and narratively.Dandadanseason 2 continues to live up to the hype, and sure enough, episode #18 was no different in that regard.

What Happened In Dandadan Episode 18?

Produced By Science Saru; Directed By Kayona Yamada

Dandadanepisode #18, “We Became a Family”, picked up where episode #17 left off, with the Evil Eye reemerging and attacking everyone. Momo eventually managed to splash him with hot water and bring back Jiji, but unfortunately, it couldn’t be done before the house was destroyed in the Evil Eye’s rampage.

As everyone recovered from the fight, the exorcists Seiko had hired finally arrived. Surprisingly, they were a heavy metal band known as Hayasii, and while they couldn’t see spirits, they could use the power of rock to destroy them, which was exactly what they attempted to do with the Evil Eye.

The Hayasii

However, Jiji didn’t want to exorcise the Evil Eye, as Jiji felt he didn’t deserve that after everything he had been through. As such, Seiko called off the exorcism and welcomed the Evil Eye into their family, with Momo, Okarun, and Aira all promising to get strong enough to subdue the Evil Eye if it ever came down to it.

The next day, Seiko started training Jiji to use his massivechireserves, as mastering that would be the key to controlling the Evil Eye. As it was Jiji’s first time doing something like that, though, he couldn’t make any real progress, and even with Jiji’s natural talent, it was something that would take a while for him to understand.

That night, Okarun and Jiji had trouble sleeping in the destroyed house, leading to them talking about how Jiji felt guilty for causing everyone trouble. Okarun understood where he was coming from, and just like Seiko told him, Okarun told Jiji that he didn’t owe anyone anything and he just needed to get strong enough to pay it forward.

The next day, everyone except Jiji went to school, as Jiji needed to continue his training. At school, Momo expressed her annoyance at how she couldn’t do anything to help repair her house, and one of her friends decided to help Momo by hooking her up with a part-time job.

After school, Momo’s friends, Miko and Muko, suddenly decided to make Okarun hang out with them, despite how much he protested the idea. Eventually, Okarun was dragged to a maid café, and the truth behind their actions was revealed: Momo’s new job was at the maid café, and they wanted to tease Momo by bringing Okarun there.

Dandadan Goes Above And Beyond For Another Spectacular Episode

What Made Dandadan Episode 18 So Good

The Hayasii’s exorcism concert was one of the most anticipated moments ofDandadanseason 2, and sure enough, episode #18 perfectly adapted it with its gorgeous visuals and the amazing original song; the English dub even went the extra mile and recruited members of heavy metal bands like DragonForce and Megadeath, and the results more than speak for themselves.

The rest of the episode was also great to watch. Jiji continues to be at the emotional center of the arc, and the way Jiji refuses to give up on the Evil Eye is nothing short of admirable, as it perfectly illustrates how Jiji is one of the most empathetic and all-around nicest characters in the series.

Beyond that, between the framing of the Evil Eye’s attacks, the development of Okarun and Jiji’s friendship, and the hilarious cliffhanger of Momo working at a maid café, everything about episode #18 was great to watch; overall,Dandadanepisode #18 is another easy contender for best episode of the season, and hopefully, episode #19 will be even better.

Be sure to watchDandadanepisode #19 when it releases on Thursday, August 14.
