TheDC Universe’s chance at getting its own version of James Gunn’sGuardians of the Galaxyis only a month away. Theending of theSupermanmoviehas kickstarted the true beginning of the DCU, with more on the way.Upcoming DC moviesinclude the likes ofSupergirlandClayfacein 2026, with many more currently in development.
Moreover, the future of theDCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monstersis looking just as promising on the TV side of things as it is on the cinematic side.Lanternswill be released in 2026, with thestory ofPeacemakerseason 2coming in August 2025.

Peacemakerseason 2 follows on from the first installment, released in 2022. The first season was part of the old DCEU timeline, yetPeacemakerseason 2 will be firmly within the continuity established inCreature CommandosandSuperman. With this, the DC Universe has the opportunity to have its own version of James Gunn’sGuardians of the Galaxy.
Peacemaker’s 11th Street Kids Are Similar To The Guardians Of The Galaxy
The Two Teams Have A Similar Vibe
Firstly, it is worth exploring the broader similarities between the crew ofPeacemakerand Gunn’sGuardians of the Galaxyfrom the MCU. In both stories, the characters can be best described as morally gray antiheroes. The likes of Rocket, Groot, and Star-Lord were criminals inGuardians of the Galaxy, with Gamora and Drax being notable killers in the MCU galaxy.
Nonetheless, all of them had good hearts underneath this gruff exterior.Guardians of the Galaxyexplored exactly this, showcasing how the five characters came together, put their morally questionable pasts behind them, created a family, and began serving the greater good of the galaxy. In many ways,Peacemakerhas the same story format.

Peacemaker himself has a troubled past after struggling to overcome his father’s very notable issues. InThe Suicide Squad, he was depicted as an antagonist who thought he was doing what he needed to do to maintain peace.Peacemakerseason 1 challenged that, taking him down a similar path to the characters from theGuardiansfranchise.
Peacemaker has killed people in the past, like the hero Rick Flag, solidifying himself as a morally questionable antihero.

The supportingcast ofPeacemakeris similar. Vigilante, for example, has admitted to murdering innocent people for jaywalking, while also taking down neo-Nazis like Peacemaker’s father and his friends. Leota Adebayo is the daughter of Amanda Waller, who is the definition of a morally gray character. Emilia Harcourt and John Economos are the same.
Peacemakerseason 1 saw these characters grow closer together over time. Eventually, they became the 11th Street Kids and worked together to stop an invasion of Earth by an alien race known as Butterflies. The overall story ofPeacemakerseason 2 is unknown, but the similarities between the characters and those of theGuardians of the Galaxyare evident.
Peacemaker Season 2 Is Shaping Up To Be Important To The DCU, Just Like The Guardians Were For The MCU
Peacemaker Is Part Of The Wider Plan
In terms of more specific ways in which thePeacemakercrew could become the DCU’s version of theGuardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn has hinted at this. When talking about the overallfranchise plan for the DC UniversewithScreen Rant’s own Ash Crossan, Gunn indicated thatPeacemakerseason 2 is an important piece of the puzzle.
Specifically, Gunn said:
“I think that if people watch the next season of Peacemaker, they’ll see where a lot of these things are going, and have a little bit more of a sense of maybe what can happen.”
This proves above all else thatPeacemakerseason 2 will have an impact on the wider DCU. With Gunn also confirming massivecameos inPeacemakerseason 2, the show is shaping up to be an integral part of the DC Universe’s overarching narrative.
As alluded to, this repeats what Gunn did withGuardians of the Galaxy. Despite each installment in that trilogy being fairly self-contained, they were responsible for properly introducing Thanos and setting up the lore of the Infinity Stones. Beyond that, the Guardians were integral toAvengers: Infinity WarandAvengers: Endgame, making them a vital part of the MCU.
Obscure Characters Becoming Vital Is A James Gunn Trend
Yet another similarity betweenPeacemakerandGuardians of the Galaxyis the comic book reputation of both. Now, they are much more popular thanks to their cinematic appearances. Before the DCU and MCU, though, Peacemaker and the Guardians were fairly obscure characters, known only to those overly interested in comic books.
Unlike characters like Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, or Hulk, the general population had likely never heard of Peacemaker or the Guardians of the Galaxy before their cinematic debuts. Therefore, Gunn taking both of these obscure properties and making them crucial to massive multimedia, billion-dollar franchises draws another similarity between them.
Peacemaker’s Group Being The DCU’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Makes Perfect Sense
With all this being said, it makes perfect sense forPeacemaker’s group to be the DCU’s version of theGuardians of the Galaxy. All of the aforementioned reasons prove as much, as do the kind of roles they have played in the DCU thus far. Peacemaker, for instance, appeared inThe Suicide Squad, his own show, and had acameo inSuperman.
This proves how wide-reaching the character could be, just like the Guardians were in the MCU. The other characters ofPeacemakerare the same.Peacemakerseason 2 will include Rick Flag, who appeared inCreature CommandosandSuperman. The former also featured John Economos.
Economos also appeared inShazam! Fury of the Gods’post-credit scene alongside fellowPeacemakercharacter Emilia Harcourt. Although this tease is unlikely to be carried over into the DCU, it proves how they could be the connective tissue of the DCU. Then there is Leota, who is Amanda Waller’s daughter, thus giving her a massive link to someone who is involved in all major DCU events.
All of this just proves howPeacemaker’s group could be the link to several different facets of the DCU. With Gunn planning to make their future adventure, in just a month’s time, so integral to the franchise, who is to say that the 11th Street Crew cannot be theDC Universe’s version of the Guardians of the Galaxy?
