The upcomingDextersequel seriesDexter: Resurrectionis already avoiding a big problemDexter: New Bloodintroduced, but the titular serial killer will still have challenges in his new hunting grounds. Ofall theDextershows so far,Dexter: New Bloodis widely regarded as the weakest entry. Theending ofNew Blood, which saw Dexter killed by his own son, Harrison, was wildly divisive, and theupcoming seriesDexter: Resurrectionis set to undo the serial killer’s death, at least partly because of it.Resurrectionis also going to change a big part ofNew Blood’s setting, which should be correcting a big mistake.
After theending of the originalDexter, Dexter left Miami and started a new, solitary life in rural Iron Lake, New York. Though he managed to contain his Dark Passenger for years, he eventually slid back into murder. This time, however, Dexter was far less careful with his kills than he had been in his youth, and he was quickly caught by Angela Bishop, who also deduced that he was Miami’s Bay Harbor Butcher. Part of the reason Dexter was caught was because of the town he chose to move to, butResurrectionis already correcting that mistake.

Dexter Being In New York City Allows Him To Blend In More, Just Like In Miami
The Size & Population Density Of New York City Is Much Better At Concealing A Killer Than Iron Lake Was
Anew trailer forDexter: Resurrectionshowed that Dexter left Iron Lake after being shot by Harrison and started a third new life in New York City, New York.Dexter’s decision to continue being a serial killer in New York solves almost all the problems that Iron Lake posed inNew Blood. One of the big reasons Dexter got caught so quickly inNew Bloodwas because there were only a few thousand people in Iron Lake, and almost everyone knew who Dexter was. The suspect pool was inordinately smaller in Iron Lake than in Miami, so it was just a matter of time until Angela started suspecting Dexter.
New York City simply won’t pose that problem for Dexter. New York’s population density, high crime rates, and general anonymity for people on the street will make it a lot easier for Dexter to hide in plain sight.New York offers the same built-in cover for a serial killer like Dexter that Miami did in the original series. Most police officers won’t care enough to devote time and resources into solving a killer’s death, and Dexter can reasonably use pseudonyms and other tactics to conceal his identity. Dexter is just one of 8 million faces in New York, whereas he was a staple of Iron Lake.

Dexter is just one of 8 million faces in New York, whereas he was a staple of Iron Lake.
There were, of course, a variety of reasonsNew Bloodhad Dexter live in Iron Lake.Dexter didn’t want to return to murder, and he picked a rural area specifically so it would be less likely for him to run into a potential killer worthy of murdering. He wasn’t trying to find a new Miami as his hunting grounds, he was trying to find a place to lay low and battle with his Dark Passenger. Now that he’s fully committed to being a killer again, it makes sense he would pick a better hunting ground.
Dexter Choosing To Live In New York City Is Still Dangerous After New Blood
Dexter Is Still In The Same State As The People Who Know He’s A Killer
Even though Dexter’s decision to move to New York does solve a lot of the issues Iron Lake presented, it isn’t a perfect solution to his problems. After Angela outed him as a serial killer at the end ofNew Blood, Dexter is facing more heat from law enforcement than he’s ever had before.Even though Angela and the rest of Iron Lake, New York, knows that Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher, he didn’t even leave the state. News of a prolific serial killer will certainly make it to the Big Apple, and Dexter isn’t nearly far enough away to avoid scrutiny from law enforcement.
Not only did Dexter not leave New York state, he also didn’t leave the Eastern seaboard. New York isn’t that far away from Miami, and there are likely quite a few people who still remember the Bay Harbor Butcher in the city.Dexter probably would have been a lot safer and smarter to choose to move to Seattle or Los Angeles instead of New York and put some real distance between himself and his past. The West coast would be much less likely to be actively looking for Dexter than New York likely is, and he’d have a much easier time staying hidden inDexter: Resurrection.
