Michael C. Hall has returned forDexter: Resurrection, but the most painful part for comic book fans likely won’t be the actual murders. The new series picks up 10 weeks after thecontroversial ending ofDexter: New Blood, where Dexter was seemingly shot and killed by his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). However, Dexter rises from the dead and goes to New York City to try and protect Harrison after he commits a murder to stop a rapist.

Dexter: Resurrectionreveals that Harrison is working as a bellhop at the Empire Hotel in New York City after leaving Iron Lake. He is shown to have a range of connections with the other staff members, which are friendly, possibly romantic, and even antagonistic. He babysits for Dante, the young son of a coworker, who wants to read comic books. However, Harrison’s comic is a wild choice, for both financial and content reasons.

Harrison Should Buy A Cheaper Reprint

Harrison reveals that after Dante’s request, he is going to introduce him toTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlescomics. The original comic book published by Mirage Studios in 1984 was a satire of popular comics of the time, includingDaredevil, Teen Titans, andNew Mutants. Issue #1 was designed to be just a one-shot, but it developed into a global phenomenon.

When Harrison arrives to babysit, he pulls aTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles#1 out of his backpack. When discussing this with the mother, he incorrectly calls the comic “the OG run of Eastman Ninja Turtles.” This is the first faux pas, asTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtleswas co-created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, and if Harrison is walking around with aTMNT#1, he would know that detail.

TMNT#1 was originally published with a loan from Eastman’s uncle, which resulted in roughly 3,000 copies. Since then, the comic has gone up exponentially in value. The first three printings were oversized comics, which is what Harrison has in his possession. This is raw, ungraded, and has no bag or board. Based on how much blood splatter is on the letter “T,“it would have to be a first or second printing, or potentially one reprinted for the 40th anniversary.

Since its debut,TMNT#1 has gone up in value more than any other comic in the past 40 years. According toGPAnalysis, which tracks the online sales of CGC-graded comics, agraded 9.8 for a first printing sold for an average of $115,000 in 2024. The last 9.8 of a second printing went for $14,000. The comic has been reprinted multiple times, so Harrison having that specific comic loose in his backpack is unwise.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 Is Just As Violent As Dexter

Grenades vs. Dismemberment

Interestingly,TMNT#1 has just as much violence and mayhem as anyDextershow. While the 1989 cartoon would introduce a family-friendly version of the Turtles, they were originally designed to kill The Shredder in a mission of revenge. Not only do they murder multiple members of The Foot Clan in the debut issue, Shredder is stabbed and ultimately killed by a grenade.

Comic books are meant to be read, and there is an ongoing debate among fans about how many books should be slabbed and graded. But, given how much money Harrison is potentially sitting on, although it’s not a 9.8 with the way he’s treating it, he should, at a bare minimum, bag and board his copy ofTMNT#1 inDexter: Resurrection.
