Dexter’s future ahead ofDexter: Resurrectionhas been teased by star Michael C. Hall and creator Cylde Phillips as the franchise continues to expand.Dexter: Resurrectionis an upcoming sequel seriestoDexter: New Blood, picking up where the previous miniseries,Dexter: New Blood, ended. It’s also not the only ongoing show in the franchise as of writing, with a prequel titledDexter: Original Sinhaving premiered on Paramount+ in December 2024. Although the original series ended in 2013, the show has continued strong with its latest iterations, maintaining success for the ever-growing franchise.
Speaking withVanity Fair, Hall, who portrays the title character, and Phillips teased the future they envision for the franchise afterDexter: Resurrection. The duo explain thatthey intend for the new sequel series to be the start of a years-long return, aiming for the series to continue for many more seasons. Check out what Hall and Phillips had to say about the series' future below:

Clyde Phillips:We’ve got the strongest franchise in Showtime’s history, and we plan to do this for years.
Michael C. Hall:Years with an s. The thinking is not to come back for a sort of self-contained one-off again, but leave it open to further exploration. The intention, and hope, is that the story will continue beyond this…. He’s a much more human, flesh-and-blood version of that horror trope of someone who just refuses to go down.
What Dexter: Resurrection’s Plans Mean For The Franchise’s Future
Dexter’s Return Might Just Be The Beginning
Taking place after theend ofDexter: New Blood, the upcoming sequel series will show the titular character tracking down his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), to New York City. This undoes the original ending of the miniseries, which initially saw the protagonist shot and seemingly killed by his son. However,it was previously revealed he survived at the start ofDexter: Original Sin, whose opening scene sees him going to a hospital and getting revived. This signals the larger plan associated with the franchise, reflecting Hall and Phillips' hopes.
The prequel is also reflective of the show’s likely longevity, sinceDexter: Original Sinseason 2has already been confirmed. If the sequel series really is supposed to continue beyond just one batch of episodes, thenboth shows are likely going to be running at the same time. The same may also be applicable to the upcoming prequel aboutthe Trinity Killer(John Lithgow), which Phillips confirmed in December 2024 has already been written. With the series expanding in so many different ways, it seems a years-long return isn’t out of the question.
