Part of what makes FromSoftware’s games so exciting is how much content is created and discovered outside the game itself.Elden Ringis a great example of this, as players continue to find secrets, process lore, delve into PvP, and more. Now that manyElden Ringplayers have finished their playthroughs, speedrunning has grown increasingly popular. One new discovery could help theseElden Ringspeedrunners, and it could helpElden Ringcasual players, too.

Reddit user Opposite_Solution_38 shared aclip fromElden Ringthis past week during which they discovered something strange. The title of their thread reads “I just clipped through the gate in shunning grounds by having my equip menu open?” and the video shows exactly that.

In the video, theElden Ringplayer is shown exploring the Subterranean Shunning Grounds, a dungeon belowLleyndelfull of Omen enemies, sewers, and more. It’s also quite labyrinthian, with players required to open a variety of gates and doors to access deeper levels of the dungeon. The player comes around a corner and sees an item to be picked up, only to be ambushed by an Omen. They then jump into their inventory while running back to try and equip some poison darts, only to walk through a metal gate as if it wasn’t there.

How this glitch happened is a complete mystery at this point. Obviously,Elden Ringcharactersshould not be able to run through a gate. That means that there was a glitch that somehow allowed the player to pass through, or the gate wasn’t actually there, and a visual bug made it display in error. The player later confirmed they tried it again and weren’t able to replicate the bug. Nevertheless, it’s something that’s going to lead to some experimentation going forward.

If the clip genuinely shows what it appears to, which would be a way to glitch through a surface that should be impassable, it could have utility forspeedrunners. They could glitch into areas or through doors that otherwise wouldn’t be accessible, which could let them skip large swathes of content very quickly.

The truth may never be discovered, of course. It may have only happened due to a perfect storm of variables, which could include the menus, assets loading in, damage from theOmen, walking backward, and other possibilities combining into a frame-perfect impossibility. Speedrunners will likely still experiment with what they see, but for now, this glitch won’t be helping anyone else.

Elden Ringis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
