Unfortunately, Fans Outside Japan Are Left Wanting

Unfortunately for fans in the West, the potentially explosive new flavor is only slated to be released in Japan at this time. A regular single-scoop will cost 420 yen (about $2.83), while a special double cup will either cost 510 yen ($3.44) for a small, or 760 yen ($5.12) for a large.

The double cups feature designs with a wide array of popular Pokémon such as Pikachu, Pawmi, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.

Finally, Baskin-Robbins is also offering the Crush Soda Pokémon Colorful Fruits drink for 700 yen ($4.72), a drink combining lemon, pineapple, and apple syrup to create a unique, vibrant drink.

Collaborations Continue Unabated

Though the Baskin-Robbins xPokémoncollaboration seems at least partially inspired by the October 16th release ofPokémon Legend: Z-A(as can be seen by the use ofZ-Astarters Tepig, Chikorita, and Totodile on the fruit drink), the property is so big that there doesn’t really need to be an upcoming release to justify a collaboration.

Just recently,Pokémonannounced a collaboration with Shonen Jumpthat had popular mangaka such asOne Piececreator Eiichiro Oda draw famous Pokémon. Going further back, even horror icons likeJunji Ito have collaborated with Pokémon.

Nintendo recently announced a similarly themedMariox Baskin-Robbins crossover that was also limited to Japan.

Regardless of what the collaboration is, Pokémon is a franchise malleable enough that crossovers with terrifying Junji Ito make as much sense as delicious ones with Baskin-Robbins. Still though, as great and logical as the new Baskin-Robbins xPokémoncrossover is, it’s just a shame fans outside of Japan won’t get a taste of the Pikachu-flavored sorbet.
