Warning! Spoilers for Superman and possible spoilers for Supergirl ahead! The world is just getting to knowSuperman’sfurry friend Krypto, but a comic hints at what fate awaits him in the DC Universe. The film’s powerful good boy has delighted fans everywhere with his high-energy nature and adorable charm. But as fans look to his next appearance, one comic spells out his dark, upcoming fate.
The2025 filmSupermanheavilyfeatured the super-dog Krypto throughout the film. At the end of the movie, Superman’s cousin, Supergirl, arrives and it’s revealed that Kara is actually Krypto’s owner instead of Superman. Clark also mentions that Kara parties on planets with red suns in order to feel the effects of alcohol.

This scenesets up Supergirl’s upcoming2026 movie, which is heavily based on the miniseriesSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. In the comic, Supergirl travels to a planet with a red sun to celebrate her 21st birthday. But during her escapade,Krypto attempts to protect Kara from being shot by an arrow and is horribly wounded.
Superman’s Dog is About to Go Through Hell in Upcoming Film
WillSupergirlRecreate This Tragic Moment?
It should be noted that while, yes, the dog was indeed shot in the first issue ofSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,Krypto is okay. He’s injured by the arrow (which also contains a poison). But in the end, Krypto heals to 100% and to this day is just as excitable and loving as he was portrayed in the film.
To be fair, while the upcoming movie is based onSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, it’s not guaranteed they’ll keep that part of the movie. After all, James Gunn noted that he removed a part ofSupermanthat showed Kryptobeing punched by Ultraman. That being said, Krypto being hurt putsWoman of Tomorrow’sstory in motion, so it may stay.

Fans Should Brace Themselves for Something Happening to Krypto
Signs Point to This Storyline Still Happening
Adaptations aren’t always a 1:1 adaptation, so things could turn out okay for the Super-Family’s dog. But at the same time,Supergirlis being envisioned as a completely different moviecompared toSupermanand its tone is very likely going to be a bit darker if it’s anything like the comic it’s based on.
Again, Krypto is not going to be killed. But animal lovers may want to be aware that the DCU’s next movie does see him go through a pretty harrowing moment. He’ll make it through because he’s a very good and strong dog, butSuperman’sfurry pal likely has some dark days ahead of him.
