Summary
AnOverwatch 2player has created a PvE mode that harkens back toTeam Fortress 2’s Mann vs. Machine game mode. Ahead of the release ofOverwatch 2, Blizzard promised unique PvE game modes, and this fan-made one may answer some of the community’s desires.
Since the franchise’s inception, Overwatchhas offered limited-time PvE game modes like Junkenstein’s Revenge and Storm Rising. Looking to expand on this concept, Blizzard promised a more vibrant PvE experience inOverwatch 2. Despite getting Story Missions and a Hero Mastery Gauntlet, the community didn’t get what it was expecting, and thefullerOverwatch 2PvE modeswere canceled. As a result, Blizzard faced some backlash from players, and saw a player count drop. While the community is still active, the game struggles to reach the heights of the first title. Perhaps to rectify the missing PvE issue, one gamer has created a game mode that’s similar to Mann vs. Machine inTeam Fortress 2.

One Reddit user recently shared a gameplay trailer of their uniqueOverwatch 2PvE game mode. The mode is called Defense of the Orb, and it takes place in Junkertown. The video shows Moira, Orisa, Reaper, and Tracer taking on 10 waves of enemies including a swarm of Junkrats, and a powered-up Roadhog acting as a boss. Between waves of enemies, players can upgrade their characters, with the clip highlightingOverwatch 2’s Tracerspending credits to unlock more health points. These points can be earned by defeating enemies, with bosses presumably yielding more points than standard ones. Besides beating the waves of enemies, the goal of Defense of the Orb is to ensure that the orb at the end of the map doesn’t have its massive health bar depleted.
How Can Overwatch 2 Gamer Play This Mode?
For gamers to access this PvE game mode, they must go toOverwatch 2’s Workshop menuand enter the code BHV1N. Its creator has confirmed that they’ve patched some issues with the game, and continue to work on it when bugs are reported. The game mode shares similarities toTeam Fortress 2's Mann vs Machine with its tower-defense elements and the variety of enemies in each wave. It’s unclear if players can choose any hero or if they’ll be limited to a specific roster like in Junkenstein’s Revenge. Because Blizzard canceled its PvE plans for the game, it’s unclear if Defense of the Orb shares any similarities with what could’ve been officially released.
As much of the community was anticipating PvE modes, Defense of the Orb may scratch that itch.Overwatch 2is free-to-play, with no paywall preventing gamers from accessing this Workshop game mode. Because Workshop offers other content and may continue to see more, it could be a good outlet for players who lose interest in the PvP grind.
