Patch 7.3 is coming next week toFinal Fantasy 14, and despite thegenerally negative pre-release fan reception, there are still some reasons to be excited for the new update. Patch 7.3 will add a new dungeon, alliance raid, trial, and all the typical content updates that come with anFFXIVpatch, and also conclude theDawntrailstory arc.
Besides the great content additions that will come later, like the newdeep dungeon reworkfor the Pilgrim’s Traverse content, Patch 7.3 will address some additional requests. One of those items seems so small on paper, butit might be the greatest change that a lot of fans have wanted for years now.

FFXIV Patch 7.3 Will Bring Viera & Hrothgar Headgear
Years Of Waiting To Properly Style Characters
The female Viera and male Hrothgar races were introduced in theacclaimedShadowbringersexpansionin 2019 and brought some much-needed variety to the popular MMO’s character creator. However, game director Naoki Yoshida, commonly known as Yoshi-P, clarified thatimplementing headgear for the two new races was difficultdue to the shapes of their heads and ears, leading to the vast majority of the headgear being unusable for a lot of players.
The character creator got even bigger with the introduction of male Viera and female Hrothgar inEndwalker, but the lack of headgear remained. Now, that’s mostlycoming to an end in Patch 7.3, asViera and Hrothgar players will get a lot more usable headpieces. Viera will also have the option of toggling the bunny ears off when wearing headgear to avoid visual clipping. Additional headgear compatibility is being explored for future updates.

More Fans Will Finally Be Able To Enjoy Headgear
The Real Glamour Hunt Can Finally Begin
According toXIVCensus, as of June 2024 (which is admittedly a little outdated now),the two least played races were Viera and Hrothgar. They’re the newest races — and race-swapping can be expensive withoutthe free Fantasias— and the lack of headgear essentially locking off huge customization elements might also be part of the reason for their relative unpopularity. Now, Viera and Hrohgar players have a whole new set of glamour pieces to grind for.
Even though not all the headgear will be implemented quite yet in Patch 7.3, it’s still a great start to bring a heavily requested feature to the game, especially during anexceptionally controversial era forFFXIV. Now that we finally have details and with the update releasing on August 5, it won’t be long before the bunnies and lions join the never-ending glamour hunt inFinal Fantasy 14.
