Apple TV+ is yet another streaming service looking to catch the attention of home-bound audiences, and may have just served up its most compelling argument yet with the trailer for season 2 ofFor All Mankind. The new season of the show will continue its nostalgic look back on the great space race, except this time, with Moon guns.
The trailer’s most intriguing shot by far includes four astronauts moon-walking their way towards some unknown threat, with assault rifles in tow, prepared to deliver whatever sort of justice one finds about 239,000 miles from Earth. Leaving aside the logistics of initiating a firefight on the surface of the Moon (and hasn’t the poor Moon suffered enough already?), it certainly makes an interesting hook for a show that, until now, seems to have fallen a bit under the radar.

Originally released during the launch of Apple TV+back in November 2019,For All Mankindis setin an alternate history where the Soviet Union beat America to the Moon during the space race, devastating NASA morale and spurring them into more desperate attempts to keep pace. Over the course of season 1, audiences watched alt-history America do its best to catch up to the Russkies, both in their technical achievements and diversity initiatives, as the USSR continued to stay one step ahead.
The story is told using a combination of real life archive footage, edited videos, original characters and fictionalized historical figures, as they navigate the political and technological challenges of attempting to land, and eventually set up camps, on the Moon. Season 2 seems to feature a significant time skip, jumping forward to Reagan’s presidency, though with most of the original characters still in play. Furthermore, the trailer seems to imply that tensions are about to boil over into direct conflict, as evidenced by the menacing tactical astronaut squad depicted in the final shots.
The teaser gives fans plenty of reason to be excited for the next season, if only to see how the show, being so devoted to realism, intends to explain itself. For now, the release date for season 2 ofFor All Mankindis still unknown, but hopefully the reveal of this trailer means it won’t be too far off. Until then, all audiences can do is wait patiently, and wonder to themselves how the Americans and Soviets plan to blow each other way in a low-gravity environment.
For All MankindSeason 2 will be launching on Apple TV+ at some point in the future.
