2025 was another excellent year forGamescom, offering an overwhelming number of exciting titles to look forward to that easily surpassed my expectations. From mind-bending outings of triple-A games to never-before-seen indie titles, it’s hard to pick out just one game that had the best showing of the year.
There was plenty of competition for Gamescom this year, with various games vying to steal the spotlight with creative trailers or live demos, but one game showed that sometimes, less is more. Even if it’s hard to pick out the definitive best reveal of the 2025 Gamescom showcase, there was one highly anticipated announcement that easily stood out the most despite only offering a short glimpse of new gameplay.

Silksong Stole The Show At Gamescom Opening Night Live
Team Cherry Won Even Before The Show Began
Even without showcasing any new content aside from another preciousfew seconds of gameplay footage, the tease of moreHollow Knight: Silksongand an official 2025 release date was easily the most exciting announcement of Gamescom’s opening night. Rather than showcasing the announcement itself, the Gamescom reveal teased Team Cherry’s own announcement stream at a later date, alluding to the possibility of a definitive release date finally being confirmed.
What makes the popularity ofSilksong’s reveal even more impressive is thatTeamCherryGameshad already released their announcement countdown hours before the event, with the Gamescom tease adding even more fuel to the fire. If the latest trailer by Team Cherry really is gearing up for a final release date, it could very well meanSilksongcould be released in a matter of weeks, so long as it followsHollowKnight’s launch schedule.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Hype Always Dominates Events
The Silksong Craze Has Only Gotten Stronger With Me
WhileSilksongstanding out as the most anticipated reveal of Gamescom 205 is still an impressive feat, it’s far from the most surprising at this point given its track record. Be it Nintendo’s Directs, The Game Awards, Xbox, or others, surrounding every game’s showcase are countless comments and social media posts relating toSIlksong, to the point where it’s becoming a running gag in the community.
Even if theSilksongcommunity can be a bit loud at times, the sheer determination ofHollow Knight’s devoted playerbase comes from a place of passion for the ever-iconic indie game, with the exhausting wait finally coming to an end after all these years. Hopefully, the wait won’t be nearly as long for the possibleDLC toHollow Knight: Silksong, but the base release already has enough to live up to without looking ahead for even more content.
