I’m convinced the Nod-Krai characters inGenshin Impactmay become some of the greatest of all time, but there may be an issue with their releases that can pose a threat to players. WhileIneffa made her debut in Version 5.8 as something of a teaser for the region, Version 6.0 will be the update in which the majority of theNod-Krai characters inGenshin Impactwill be introduced.

HoYoverse has already confirmed that three new Nod-Krai characters will debut in Version 6.0: Lauma, Flins, and Aino. Details about them are scarce, but theleaks about Lauma and Flinsindicate they are 5-star Dendro and Electro units, respectively, whileAino is expected to be a 4-star Hydro character. The Version 6.0 beta tests have shown even more details about their kits.

Genshin Impact’s Aino smiles with her eyes closed.

Nod-Krai Characters In Genshin Impact May Have Special Interactions With Each Other

Moonsign May Unlock New Gameplay Possibilities

Based on what has been leaked from their kits, Nod-Krai characters will have a special synergy system called Moonsign, also referred to as Lunar Phases. The Moonsign levels will increase based on how many Nod-Krai characters are present in the team.Aino’s leaks inGenshin Impact6.0show that at higher Moonsign levels, her Burst will fire Hydro DMG projectiles much faster.

This can be seen in a leaked video shared by user LuneYao onReddit. Without Lauma, the intervals between each projectile are much larger. With Lauma in the team, the intervals are reduced significantly, which means more damage output and opportunities for reactions. Another leak, shared by Ryuusei_Dragon onReddit, shows that Lauma’s horns also changed based on the Moonsign, becoming larger and more complex with more Nod-Krai characters in the team comp.

Genshin Impact’s Lauma has a serene look.

I Feel Forced To Pull For Nod-Krai Characters In Genshin Impact

Nod-Krai Character Synergy May Be Forced

The special synergy offered by Nod-Krai characters does seem great, but I am a bit concerned for my current characters. The aesthetic value that higher Moonsign levels offer is compelling, but hardly game-changing in any way. However, if Moonsign does affect gameplay to the extent it has been demonstrated in the leaked beta test videos, it may be theend of an era for olderGenshin Impactcharacters.

This is not the first time a region has introduced a new synergy for its characters. Most recently, for example, Natlan brought forth the Nightsoul mechanics. Characters like Mavuika and Xilonen get a lot more effective in battle when other Natlan units trigger Nightsoul Bursts, for example. Even so,it’s possible to enjoy their gameplay kits without having to overload team comps with Natlan characters.

Genshin Impact’s Flins looks serious as he’s attacked by the Wild Hunt.

Contrarily, however, it seems like Nod-Krai characters may only really become good when there are other units from the same region in the team. Aino’s Burst with a low-level Moonsign is easily replaceable for Yelan’s or Xingqiu’s Bursts. However,if you really want her to excel, you’ll need another Nod-Krai character inGenshin Impact, and that’s where it gets tricky.

Speculating on the possibility of receiving Aino for free at the start of Version 6.0,I already feel forced to pull for other Nod-Krai characters; otherwise, she’ll be completely dispensable. Similarly, it may only make sense to run Lauma or Flins if I pair them up with Aino, as their leaked kits seemingly have higher Moonsign requirements than the upcoming Hydro character.

Nod-Krai Characters May Forever Change Genshin Impact (For Better & For Worse)

The Upcoming Units May Be Strong, But They May Force Banner Pulls

My big concern is that, while Nod-Krai units have the potential to become some of the strongest characters in the game, they’ll only reach that status if you have at least three of them to trigger Passive Talents that include Moonsign mechanics. Moreover, you’ll need variety when it comes to elements and team comp roles.

As a rumored sub-DPS, Aino may synergize well with Lauma and Flins, who are rumored to be main DPS units. However,Lauma and Flins may not work too well together, as they’d be competing for the on-field spot. This would require you to own a third Nod-Krai character, like a healer or buffer.

Every Aspect Of A Warrior Quest in genshin impact - how to trigger

There are plenty of Nod-Krai characters being released over the upcoming year, as indicated by theleakedGenshin Impact6.X banners, but you may feel more compelled than ever to pull for units. However, this urge may come more from completing the required character count for another unit’s Moonsign Passive Talent than the character themself, and therein lies the problem.

Overall,it feels like HoYoverse is pushing players toward owning multiple Nod-Krai charactersduring this upcoming year of content for the sake of numbers rather than actual gameplay value. Surely, this has been seen in parts in the past, but not to this extent. I’m concerned that a character like Flins may feel underpowered unless I use him with at least two other Nod-Krai units.

Subsequently, I may feel forced to pull for an unwanted character only to unlock his real gameplay potential rather than using my Primogems on a character I truly want. It remains to be seen how future Nod-Krai units will behave when it comes to the leaked Moonsign mechanic, but as eager as I am to have new powers at my disposal, I’m worried about the powercreep that may affectGenshin Impact.
