Ghostsis constantly finding innovative ways to keep life at Woodstone Manor interesting. While there is alwaysthe regular cast ofGhostsmaking mischief, the show also makes great use of supporting ghost characters, like Puritan Patience wreaking havoc in the season 4 premiere or ’80s Prom ghost Stephanie popping up for a few episodes a season. Dinosaur-loving stripper Chris was around for a good time but not a long time, and I hope we see more ofSass’s girlfriend JoaninGhostsseason 5.
WithGhostsalready renewed for seasons 5 and 6, the show must be thinking about how to stay fresh with its premise-based limitations. The show has avoided using its ultimate stakes - sucking off one of the ghosts - which is for the best, as the ensemble nature ofGhostsis one of its greatest charms.Ghostsinstead tends to add rather than subtract elements. TheGhostsseason 4 finaleteased a brilliant idea I hope the show runs with in future seasons: introducing more types of supernatural creatures to the series.

Trevor’s Quip Lays The Groundwork To Introduce Vampires To A World That Already Has Spirits
Sam and Isaac are finally getting ready to publish their book. They don’t have the sources to back up Isaac’s life story as a biography, but by making Isaac Higgintoot into the vampire Higgintooth, they are able to find a publisher.Patience the Puritan ghostis drawn to the book launch party by an evil presence, and she calls the very concept of a vampire “demonic.” Trevor quips that they are ghosts, so “don’t throw stones” - which could be a throwaway joke, but might lay legitimate groundwork to introduce other types of supernatural creatures to the world ofGhosts.

It would make sense that, because most humans can’t see or experience ghosts, there are other creatures lurking on the periphery of the world if Sam looks closely enough. Patience was actually sensing Elias Woodstone’s presence - not just the book launch - since he was attending the party as an emissary of the Devil. Patience’s hunch was right in general, but her intuition is not absolutely correct - she thought deviled eggs were literally eggs from the Devil, sprinkled not with paprika but the blood of the innocent.
Ghosts Routinely Adds To The Lore To Expand The World
Spirits Discover Their New Powers Every Season & They’ve Already Met A Poltergeist
Ghostshas slowly added to its lore over the years, so the introduction of an entirely new species would not be a huge leap. InGhostsseason 3, episode 7, the spirits meet a poltergeist, a type of ghost that attaches to a person instead of a location. That same season,Pete realized his ghost power of roamingafter having been dead for decades, and in just one season, the show introduced Joan, another roamer, and Chris, a ghost completely uninhibited by boundaries while airborne.
Ghostscreated its own lore for poltergeists, so they might put their own twist on other creature lore as well. Traditionally, poltergeists are corporeal spirits who can interact with the physical world. Peeves in theHarry Potterbook series is one of the most notable examples of poltergeists in modern pop culture and, of course, the titular character of 1982’sPoltergeist.
Ghostswalks a fine line between adding new lore while not over-explaining its fantasy elements, a balance every supernatural show must strike.What We Do in the Shadowsis a perfect exampleof a show that had its focus on the core vampire clan, while introducing other creatures like werewolves for incredible comedic effect. If the ghosts can’t leave Woodstone Manor,Ghostswill bring other beings to them to keep the show feeling fresh and expansive.
How Other Creatures Could Be Used In Ghosts Season 5
Other Species Might Have An Insight Into How To Save Jay’s Soul
Ghostsis fairly locked into its setting, but other creatures would be able to come to Woodstone Manor. There is something uniquely funny about having vampires as guests at a B&B, since a major part of vampire lore is that they may only enter if invited. This could be an interesting twist forJay, who feels left out inGhosts, a complaint that is entirely justified – although he might come to miss the quiet.
It would make sense that if Pete and Joan were to meet other species on their travels, they would tell them about a hotel where the owners are primed to accept the supernatural. While it would be too much of a contrivance if these creatures were invisible to everyone but Sam, they may want to be somewhere where they don’t have to hide their identity quite as much.
While it would be fun to have another species just for the comedic possibilities, there is narrative potential for theGhostsseason 4 cliffhanger as well. Since some of these creatures might be undead, they might have insight into the afterlife and what it will take tosave Jay from Elias Woodstone’s clutchesinGhostsseason 5.
