During theGhostspanel at this year’sSan Diego Comic-Con, showrunner Joe Wiseman opened up the possibility for supernatural creatures other than spirits to be confirmed in-universe. At one point in the panel, Wiseman confirmed that, just like last season,Ghostsseason 5will have a special Halloween episode.

More interestingly, Wiseman teased that the mummy Hetty mentioned was somewhere in the ballroom during last season’s Halloween episode will “play a major role” in this season’s Halloween episode. While it’s just a tease, it does open up the intriguing possibility that the supernatural sitcom will finally acknowledge the existence of other paranormal entities.

What The Mummy’s Return Means For Ghosts Season 5

There Are A Few Ways It Could Be Integrated Into The Episode

Of course, it has to be noted that the mummy in question isn’t one in the Universal Classic Monsters sense, but an actual mummified corpse that Hetty collected at some point in the past. It wasn’t out there walking around and mingling with the spirits ofGhosts' Woodstone Mansionand moaning its way through the Halloween episode in tattered rags.

However, it’s interesting that the mummy will not only return but also play a significant role in this year’sGhostsHalloween episode. That’s a very broad description, but it does tease the possibility of something we’ve not seen before in the form of another supernatural entity.

There are a few ways the mummy could factor in. Keeping with the spooky spirit of a Halloween episode, it’s possible that Sam, Jay, and the deceased residents of Woodstone will find themselves dealing with a classic Egyptian curse. Breaking the curse could end up being an arc that spans multiple episodes, or one that is neatly wrapped up in the Halloween special as a fun little side story.

On the other hand, a much bigger role would be, of course, if the mummy somehow comes back to life. Considering the loose canon of the show, that’s not too farfetched. It’s not impossible to think the spirit of the mummy might find its way back to the body, or that another spirit might temporarily (or permanently) possess the mummy’s corpse.

If the Halloween episode goes that route, it would be the first timeanother supernatural creature has officially existed in-universe inGhosts. Even if it only lasts for an episode, it still opens the door to a much wider supernatural world and deeper lore.

Our Take On Ghosts Season 5’s Halloween Episode

Introducing Supernatural Creatures Would Expand Ghosts' Universe In A Big Way

It would honestly be great if the Halloween episode went the latter route with the return of the mummy.Ghostshas teased the possibility of several other supernatural creatures existing in the world. Currently, they’re mostly treated the way we treat them in our own world: recognized in fiction and believed in by some, but not yet absolutely proven. However, it stands to reason that if spirits exist inGhosts' universe, other entities might, too.

Patience, for example, firmly believes in the existence of demons and devils, as well as witches, because she’s a Puritan ghost from the 1600s. There’s the aforementioned mummy that Hetty bought back in the Gilded Age when she was still alive, which fits with the growing Egyptology craze in the West at the time.

The strongest hint yet that supernatural creatures wouldn’t be completely out of the question, however, is when Sam is writing a book about Isaac and decides to make it about vampires. Patience says that the very idea of vampires is “demonic,” prompting Trevor to point out that they themselves are ghosts, so “don’t throw stones.” It was a quippy line, but he’s not wrong.

Ghostsseason 5’s Halloween episode will undoubtedly be fun, regardless of how it decides to include the mummy. Still, only one option expands the world of the show in a way that will set it up for dozens of new storylines and several seasons while keeping the story fresh.
