TheMonsterverse’s $2.5 billion box office total proves it to be a successful franchise, yet a worthy competitor could be on the horizon that will give it a run for its money. For a while in the Hollywood landscape, theTitans of the Monsterversehave been the only true monster movies made on massive budgets. Although there have been outliers, theMonsterverse timelineis the biggest franchise of its ilk and has been for a long time, as backed up by its reception.

While some of theMonsterverse movies rank poorlyamong critics, likeGodzilla: King of the Monsters, all of them have been relatively successful at the box office. As of the release ofGodzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the franchise has grossed over $2.5 billion, likely driven by its aforementioned singularity as a true, big-budget monster franchise. With aGodzilla x Kongsequelon the horizon, the franchise looks set to capitalize on its status. That said, a worthy competitor may finally have presented itself - a competitor that could benefit both franchises while offering something different from the Monstervers’s Titans.

Alien And Predator’s Eventual Crossover Gives The Monsterverse Worthy Competition

Two Other Titans Of The Monster Genre Could Come To Blows

The competitor in question could be another crossover between theAlienandPredatorfranchises. The two have crossed over before, yet theAlien vs. Predatormovies are often regarded as theworst-ranked in theAlienorPredatorfranchises. Nonetheless, teases that another crossover is in the works have been plentiful. Not only did the head of 20th Century Studios tease as much toThe HollywoodReporter, but a secret Easter egg was spotted in the recent trailer for the next live-actionPredatormovie,Predator: Badlands.

If indeed these teases are capitalized on and anotherAlienandPredatorcrossover is placed into production, the Monsterverse could finally have some competition. As already alluded to, the Monsterverse is fairly singular in that it is one of the only franchises today that features iconic monster characters duking it out.AlienandPredatorfeature two of the other most iconic monster designs in movie history, and a crossover done right could become a massive commercial success. If so,Godzilla and Kong may have monster competition in the form of the Yautja and Xenomorphs.

How A New Alien Vs. Predator Crossover Can Be Different From Godzilla Vs. Kong

Differences Prove How Competition Could Breed Success

If anAlien vs. Predatorcrossover were to happen, it would provide worthy competition to theGodzilla x Kongmovies because of how different it would be. The first major difference between the two would be size, both figuratively and literally. Regarding the former, the Monterverse movies have soaring budgets due to the CGI-heavy stories involved, meaning anAlien vs. Predatormovie could be more conservative from a financial perspective.

Then there is the size difference between the monsters themselves. The Monsterverse provides big, gigantic clashes of literal Titans, which theAlien vs. Predatormovies would not do. The latter features smaller monsters, meaning a bigger focus on more traditional action thrills could be implemented. Moreover, the Monsterverse places its focus mostly solely on these big monsters, whereas theAlienandPredatorfranchises thrive just as much in their human characters as they do their monsters. All of these differences could provide competition with theMonsterverse, allowing space for both to succeed in a modern Hollywood that brings monsters back to the fore.
