It’s normal for any team to go through a changing of the guard, and that’s certainly on the horizon for theGuardians of the GalaxyasCaptain Marvelsteps into a leadership role. With Star-Lord at its helm, the Guardians were one of Marvel’s most quirky groups. Carol Danvers brings a completely different vibe, and things will inevitably change.
Imperialis Marvel’s ambitious project focusing on its cosmic lineup with characters like Nova, Captain Marvel, Hulk, and many others. A reinvented Guardians lineup is part of that push for a refresh, andthat means saying goodbye to Peter Quill, at least temporarily, in favor of Carol Danvers' seasoned approach.

Even casual fans will recognize this as something that’s sure to shift the team’s focus and dynamic.Captain Marvel’s leadershipis inherently opposed to Star-Lord’s more laid-back approach. That can be a good thing for groups like the Avengers, but its effect on the Guardians remains to be seen.
Captain Marvel’s Leadership Will Reshape the Guardians of the Galaxy
Carol Danvers is Nothing Like Star-Lord
Currently, Captain Marvel is busy with the Avengers, but a major change is on the horizon for the veteran leader. While the Avengers have dabbled in space warfare, and their Impossible City base definitely qualifies as extraterrestrial, it’s been a while since Carol did much exploring on the cosmic side of things.
Marvel intends forImperialto truly shake things up, and replacing Peter Quill with Carol Danvers will accomplish that in spades. It’s hard to think of two leaders with more opposing styles. Where Star Lord is a rebel, Captain Marvel tries to do things by the book. She’s capable of (and willing) to use authority to keep a team in line.

That’s not to say Star Lord was less skilled, in comparison, only that Carol Danvers garners a different kind of respect. With Peter Quill, the Guardians feel more like a “found family” group of outcasts. They’re rebellious space adventurers, shockingly capable of defending worlds when they put their heads and hearts into it.
Captain Marvel stepped into leadership roles held by absolute giants like Captain America, forged alliances with Cyclops and his X-Men, and has generally proven that she has the strength and skill necessary to lead seasoned fighters against incredible odds and come out victorious.

On the other side of things, Danvers is regimented and practiced. Captain Marvel stepped into leadership roles held by absolute giants like Captain America, forged alliances with Cyclops and his X-Men, and has generally proven that she has the strength and skill necessary to lead seasoned fighters against incredible odds and come out victorious.
Both Carol and Peter have proven themselves as leaders, but the vast differences in their personalities will be what truly reshapes the team. Not only will Captain Marvel be working with a different line-up than fans have grown accustomed to, but she’ll doubtlessly approach it in an entirely new way. Time will tell if that means better or worse.

Captain Marvel Gets a New Crew for a New Approach
Many fans grew accustomed to the Guardians reflecting the MCU lineup of Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Groot, Drax, and Mantis. Although that particular crew was popularized by Dan Abnett, who will be returning to the franchise for Imperial, leadership isn’t the only thing changing. Gamora is set to be the only familiar face in the updated Guardians.
Along with Captain Marvel’s leadership style representing a major departure from Star-Lord’s tactics, she’s joined by Gamora, Darkhawk,Cosmic Ghost-Rider, and potentially Brawn. There’s still a bit of mystery surrounding the team, but regardless of who the final recruits are in the end, it’s still a big shake-up for the team.

A new dynamic isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The very nature of the Guardians of the Galaxy is different from the Avengers, and even Captain Marvel can’t change that at its core. Watching Carol adapt to the team, and vice versa, is certain to be interesting, and it heralds just how much Imperial will alter the universe.
Captain Marvel Can Guide the Guardians Into the Future
She Isn’t Star-Lord, but She’s a Better Leader
Stylistic differences aside, the most important takeaway from the Guardian’s upcoming leadership change is that Captain Marvel has already proven her value and strength. She’s one of theMarvel Universe’s great cosmic powerhouses, and Imperial is the perfect opportunity to reintroduce her to that side of the fray. She’s already guarded the galaxy (and beyond) plenty of times.
It feels strange to have a new round of Guardians without Star-Lord or even other frequent figures like Nova, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The new team composition is incredibly powerful, with members like Cosmic Ghost-Rider elevating what they’re capable of, and Carol Danvers knows exactly how to channel and direct that kind of raw potential.
It’s unlikely that Captain Marvel will remain at her new post permanently, as Carol always seems to have another adventure waiting somewhere else. She’ll help write a memorable chapter of the team in the meantime, and it will be on her own terms. AsCaptain Marvelreplaces Star-Lord, she’ll lead theGuardians of the Galaxyin an unexplored direction.
