Ever since Xbox started bringing its exclusives to other platforms,Halo’s debut on PlayStation has felt almost inevitable. New datamined information now claims Master Chief will be appearing on PS5 imminently.

According toHalodataminergrunt.apion Twitter (viaVideoGamer),a new product ID indicating a PlayStation 5 port of aHalotitle has appeared in Halo Studios' retail API, indicating the game is coming “very soon.“It’s unclear whichHalogame is being brought over to PS5; in a reply asking if it was theMaster Chief Collection, grunt.api said they don’t think it’ll be theMCC, since this appears to be a new ID. Another reply indicates they don’t believe it’sHalo Infiniteeither. The dataminer also notes that there is so far no indication thatHalois coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 just yet, despite Xbox representatives discussing their intent to support the platform.

A Halo PS5 Port Was Found In Halo Studios’ Retail API

It’s Unclear Which Halo Title It Is

AHalogame appearing in Halo Studios' retail API indicates that a product is gearing up to be shipped– its product ID is in the developer’s systems, in turn letting it be distributed for retail. Halo Studios was formerly known as 343 Industries, the developer that took the reins ofHalofrom Bungie followingHalo: Reach. Halo Studios' rebrand was made public alongside the announcement that, moving forward,Halowill be developed in Unreal Engine, abandoning the Slipspace Engine that was made specifically forHalo Infinite.

Unfortunately, the retail API appears to have very little information aside from the franchise and the platform. The dataminer requested specific, non-Xbox platforms, meaning the returned product ID is not simply a new SKU for aHalotitle coming toXbox’s recently revealed handheld;the upcomingHalorelease is specifically for the PlayStation 5. The assertion that it’s not theMaster Chief CollectionnorInfiniteleaves very few options, though.

Halo Infinite Still Seems Most Likely To Come To PlayStation 5

Halo’s Ongoing Game

The dataminer’s insistence that theHalogame coming to PS5 isn’tInfinitenor theMCCis a bit confounding. Even with a new product ID, I’m inclined to thinkInfiniteis still the most likely game to be ported to the PS5 first. It’s the franchise’s ongoing project, having received regular updates since it launched. Its multiplayer is currently in a good state, and even if its campaign is derided for being quite short, it shows the ambition Halo Studios' is likely hoping to meet in futureHalotitles. An injection of new players could be just whatInfinite’s multiplayer needs to keep its dwindling momentum.

TheMaster Chief Collectionis the other obvious option, but it does limit Microsoft’s ability to grab repeat customers by bundling almost everyHalogame together. There have been rumors of aHalo: Combat Evolvedremake, but Microsoft’s current strategy would definitely see it come to Xbox and PC first. It’s possible that another bundle has been created for PlayStation, or, if the series is coming over in release order, it could be another re-release ofHalo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. It’s also difficult to believe it’s coming “very soon,” consideringHalodidn’t make an appearance at either the recentXbox Games ShowcasenorPlayStation’s State of Play.

Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite is the sixth entry in the core Halo franchise. It puts players back solely into the Mjolnir power armor of Master Chief after the fifth game’s decision to split his time in the campaign with another protagonist. In the game’s campaign, players will enter the open world of Zeta Halo as they battle to stop a faction of foes known as the Banished, who now have control of the installation. The multiplayer mode revives the frantic first-person shooting combat and pits players in free-for-alls or team-based combat, where they complete objectives and earn currency to customize their Spartan soldier the way they want.
