One of the most shocking game reveals at Sony’s recent “Future of Gaming” event revealing the PlayStation 5 was the announcement ofSpider-Man: Miles Morales, a follow-up to 2018’s PlayStation 4 exclusiveMarvel’s Spider-Man. Better yet, it’s scheduled to launch in just a few months, with a release window of “Holiday 2020.” Now, just a week on from the event, Insomniac Games has finally revealed some new information on the upcoming standalone game, which it claims is “akin toUncharted: The Lost Legacyin terms of overall scope.”

While it’s no surprise that Sony and Insomniac Games seem keen on continuing the story set up in the PlayStation 4 original, many were shocked to see that this standalone title will be centered entirely around the titular protagonist Miles Morales, as he grows accustomed to his new abilities and sets himself apart from his mentor, Peter Parker.

The game’s creative director, Brian Horton, has outlined this in a post on the PlayStation Blog today, while also giving us an idea of the game’s setting and timeline, following the events ofMarvel’s Spider-Man. Speaking of the game’s setting, Horton said “Let’s set the scene for the game a little more. It’s now wintertime, about a year after the events of the first game. Marvel’s New York is covered in snow, and just before Christmas break, a war between an energy corporation and a high-tech criminal army has broken out. Miles’s new home in Harlem is at the heart of the battle.” He continued, stating “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moralesis an important, heartfelt, emotional and essential experience toexpanding theMarvel’s Spider-Manuniverse. And we hope it will be for you as well. "
WhileSpider-Man: Miles Moraleswill featured a heavily updated version of the previous game’s version of New York, it seems that players shouldn’t expect it to be a simple re-thread of the same open world. Being set at Christmas, the game will be able tomake use of ray-tracingfor illuminating the city at night, while Insomniac has also detailed the game’s use of the PlayStation 5’s SSD for incredibly fast loading. The game’s creative director also gave hope to fans waiting ona full sequel to the 2018 PlayStation 4 title, stating “we still have much of Peter’s story left to tell.”
